A buddy just told me they aren't even making Contender's anymore, so if you buy one of those you will probably need to get it used. I have shot a few Taurus Judge's, in my opinion, they are useless for hunting rabbits. I have hit a few rabbits at 30+ with the contender, I think I would let you shoot at me with the judge at 30 yards, thats how bad it sprays.

after further research its more conversion is complicated.. Yes it has to do with rifling but it also has aspects of conversion, caliber, and different states have different laws.

I have an 410 encore and love it . But I also have rifle barrels for it as well.

if you were close to mississippi, i have a Thompson Center Encore with three setups i would sell ya. i have 7mm mag barrel, 50 cal muzzleloader barrel and 45/410 pistol barrel with pistol grips. the 7mm & 50 cal are both rifle setups with scope base & rings. i would take $800 for complete setup

The reason they are legal is because they are 45/410s if they were straight 410s with smooth bores they would be illegal. The contender encore Rossi the magnum research and judges are all 45/410 barrels that's how they are legal. You can still buy new contender g2s if u find them around certain shops, but from what I heard they are done making new ones to let the encores take over.

I wouldn't buy anything other then the contender if u can afford the magnum research it is awesome too. I killed one last year hunting with two guys from the site in an open field crossing that had to be pushing 35-40 yards does it happen everytime defiantly not. However this year with my new hand loads and flight control wads in the contender I bet it happens a lot more. I have the pattern down to scary tight under 15 yards.

If you have a dealer close to you that will work with you there are many different options on Gunbroker. I like the contenders with a 10" barrel for hunting but the Rossi looks like it maybe a good option. I've just never shot one. I hunt with a pistol about 90 percent of the time as it is much easier to handle your dogs when you don't have to deal with a full size shotgun.
