Ears bleed terrible to. I've seen dogs come out looked like they'd been shot. My dogs are about always bleeding at the end of their ears and the tips of their tails after a long run.
Take your kids huntin and you wont have to hunt for your kids.

Happens a Lot best thing we found that helps is to Slather their ears down real good with neosporin or bag balm Before sending them out Seems to help. And if they do get cut you already have some antiseptic on em slows the bleeding down anyways.
Mine will get scratched up quite a bit during the season, but I mostly only run on the weekend so I hope it heals up, but if it become a cronic problem I will keep this in mind.

thanks for all the input and bloody ears stories,

After getting into beagleing I have come to realize these trailing hounds are the toughest dogs around.

will look and see what the name is.It`s real sticky then dry hard.

I think you are talking about EMT gel from TSC, the stuff works real well, will stop bleeding from a big cut and stop it fast then harden up and dry. This stuff is also an antiseptic.

Vaseline or sulfadyne will help, but they are always torn up the next week.

Don't even sweet it. Just keep running them and running them. The ears will eventually get so tough that they don't even scratch easy. They get hard as a rock. Below is a 4 year old after a weekend of running easily over 12 hours running, but you can't tell that from his ears anymore. Used to he'd be covered in blood. Notice the edge of his ears. He is a bull dog in the briars. He checks everything by diving in head first no matter how thick it is.

My poor ole dog carved chunks out of the front of his ears:

A couple years back Mr. Passmore recommended trying laying on the super glue to build a protective barrier. It works pretty good, if you take time to put it on heavy and let it dry before turning them loose (or letting their ear set to their eye/jaw/etc.). The other thing I've noticed is that once the layer has been there for a while, another overlay won't work as it's breaking loose at the skin level and he'll just tear it all off. Here he is after a few hours of running, with protection:

Bought the EMT gel and TSC and it realy works. Stops the bleeding quick and lasted the rest of the day running. Added some more on the way home and kept my dog, dog box, tailgate and hunting clothes from getting all bloody. Thanks to those for suggesting it. Now I dont have to CUT OFF HIS ears

Its the vein around the outer edge. You cut that and it ll bleed like crazy. You can stop the bleeding with regular baking flour quickly. Put him up and let it scab over. Emt gel after you get it stopped. Give him a week to heal and he ll be good to go. Bag balm or mushers secret if you have heavy multa flora rose works well. Also terramycin in their eyes after a good soybean chase in the summer/ fall stops matted eyes very well. Goodluck..
