Chiggers.........
Moderators: Pike Ridge Beagles, Aaron Bartlett
Folks, here's my remedy for stopping the itching and killing chiggers. I draw me a good hot bath tub full of water as hot as I can stand it. I then add SALT to make a very heavy salt concentration in the tub of water. This next step is the most important so listen carefully. While the tub is filling with the HOT, SALT water mixture I sit butt naked on the toilet and scratch all bites until they bleed. After I've got them oozing pretty good I soak in the HOT, SALT water. WOW, does that hurt so good and with all that pain you'll forget about the itch. This seems to stop the itching and appears to kill the chiggers as I start to heal up without much itch there after. Of course the sores will scab over and look pitiful but at least I'm not going crazy scratching. I ain't no doctor so don't ask for pain remedies you just gotta determine which is worse the menacing itching or the pain that only hurts so good for a short time.

I don't have them all over me just in 2 spots...I have been putting some benadryl gel stuff on them and that has controled the itching but when I start working man do they start burning......especially the one on my armpit......I've had them going on a week now and they are still as bad as they were last week.....
The Crank's may not have it all together, but when we're together we have it all....
Contrary to popular belief chiggers do not burrow under
the skin, they attach to the skin and inject an enzyme.
Usually by the time you notice the bite the chigger has already
fed and dropped off, or has been killed by you scratching because
they have very delicate bodies. They leave behind a kind of feeding
tube in the skin that with the enzyme causes the horrible itching.
I never run dogs, or enter the field without using some kind of bug
repellent. I treat my clothes with permanone spray from Wal-Mart,
I haven't had a problem out of ticks or chiggers, using this stuff.

The larval chigger is an active creature that moves to the tip of grasses and fallen leaves to wait for and grab onto a passing meal. Rodents are a common host but chiggers can attack a variety of other animals and humans. Chiggers move to a feeding spot (ears of rodents, around the eyes of birds, or where clothing is tight on humans) and attach themselves tightly to the skin. After secreting digestive enzymes, they suck up liquefied host tissues. They neither suck blood nor burrow into the skin. The rash and intense itching associated with chiggers is an allergic reaction to the mite's salivary secretions.
Chiggers most frequently occur in overgrown brush or grassy areas, especially where small rodents are abundant. Females lay eggs on the ground in groups of up to 400, picking damp but well drained sites. They may be particularly abundant near stream banks, under trees, orchards, or berry thickets. There is one generation each year with chiggers most abundant during July, August, and early September.
Keep putting an oily antibiotic spray on the areas and it will ease the itching. Wally world sells a hydrocortisone spray that helps alot. Nail polish or remover make the rash worse because of the solvents used. Acetone, toluene, or benzene dry out the rash and make the itching worse.

Here is what helped me. A few weeks ago I got ate up by them darn things. I have had them before but never like this. I was about to go CRAZY. The chiggerex the nail polish and the bleech bath had never worked for me. I usually just suffer for a few days, but I was looking through the cabinet for anything that might give me some relief, and I found a bottle of Healer Hand Lotion that I bought from Walgreens. It has a stong mixture of ammonia in it. Let me tell you up front it burns like FIRE for about 10 seconds and relieves the itching for several hours. I could take the pain better than the itching. If you try it let me know how it works for you.
