Re: Warfield Red
I believe ole Warfield Red was from right where I was born and raised in Terre Haute, In. I must be an ole throw back to those good ole days when a hounds big ole bawl mouth made the hair stand up on the back of my neck and it still does today. We never had mountains to hunt here but man as a kid I remember those big ole stripper hills making me think they were mountains. Even back then the hoops and hollows, up and down was wearing on both man and dogs. Those ole stripper hills were also thick as could be in spots as well. I loved to get perched on top of a big tall stripper nob and listen to the big bawl mouthed dogs we used to have. When I was coon hunting I only owned bawl mouthed track dogs and chop mouthed tree dogs and never any different. If I'm listening to a pack of hounds I'll gravitate to those big bawl mouthed hounds regardless of what the others are doing and I guess that is in my blood just as hounds are, although I don't live and breath them as I once did. Comes a time when living and breathing is already a hard enough task!

Re: Warfield Red
Bennett owned Park Road kennels . The dog was named for a person but there were in fact red dogs that went back to him.The weir creeks ,many of which were red went back to Warfield Red thru Jenks . I don't have any evidence but Have heard many times that the Warfield Major dog that was out of Warfield Red was red himself. . I have been trying to find an old stud add on him but haven't been able to. Obviously Red himself doesn't have much influence on the dogs of today and many dogs that are called warfield reds do not go back to him and but its still an interesting subject .If someone doesn't want to hear about it seems like they could just skip the thread. Jim Lane from Laneline beagles could probably fill in some gaps .He knows more about the yellow creeks and some of the other old lines than anyone else I know .

Re: Warfield Red
Saw Warfield Red run in a field trial and he was not red. That's the type of beagles I had back then.
Lots of folks back then with red hair were called red for a nickname.
He ran closer on a track then any beagler today I know wants.
Would take hours to run a circle like most of your dogs today do in minutes. Good mouth and claimed the line quick and stayed right on the track and ran every inch of it.
Those were the AKC trials of yesterday. Those trials and dogs are still popular around here and a club that runs that type of AKC dog is just up on the mountain from me. great bunch of men and women keeping what they consider the REAL AKC beagle alive.
Never been to a Brace Trial, GO, I'll guarantee you'll enjoy yourself and the company you will keep. There is the place you'll find those old lines many generations back in your dogs pedigre still alive, not among hunters.

Re: Warfield Red
Thanks Chapkos,
Just an old beagler reminiscing. I do like to drive by after a hunt and if I see the gate open to the brace trialers running ground turn in and join the gallery with my fellow hunters to see their faces if they have never been to one. Never seen one of their dogs that was not very well kept and the running ground something to dream about.
They always have plenty of good food left over from dinner (lunch for you yankees LOl).
