What is wrong with people?

Casey, et al. If you read my reply, I stated that I knew the UNWRITTEN rule and I also stated what or how I would have reacted. Folks, this is exactly why I do not hunt public land nor anything other than my own or the leased property we belong to. I don't give a crap what anyone thinks but these folks shooting that rabbit in the wild if on property they had permission to hunt broke absolutely no laws but Joeyman did, at least in this state. I explained all of that in my reply and if folks don't agree that's fine too but the law is the law. Many of you proclaim that filling the tailgate is NOT against the law and I agree it is NOT legally against the law BUT it is against the UNWRITTEN law just as what these folks did is. So, now here's the question do we as sportsman follow ALL the laws and rules either written or UNWRITTEN or do we pick and choce which ones fit our fancy at the time? Someone asked what if one of them would have shot a dog while shooting at that rabbit and I would say that if both parties were hunting legally then an accident happened and no liability could be imposed if the party didn't shoot the dog purposely, which I doubt would have been the case. Accidents happen all the time when we turn our hunting dogs loose in the wild. Another reason why I'm awful picky about who I hunt with and I always want to know where everyone as well as the dogs are. As I stated, if it were me and I saw the other party encrotching on the property I was hunting I would have went to all in my party and told them to gather up the dogs as fast as possible and moved on. NO way is game the property of anyone until you kill it. By the way, speaking of shooting dogs, that can happen at anytime one of our dogs get onto property that we have no permission to hunt especially when that property is posted but here in Indiana it doesn;t have to be posted. I've been to court over this issue, as well as another time when my uncle shot two of his neighbors hogs that were rooting up his garden. NEITHER shooter (landowners) were held liable and the result in one case was a dead $1500.00 coon dog and two dead hogs in the other. My dogs are of more important than putting another rabbit on the tailgate and I would have stopped the hunt for the rabbit and started protecting my dogs.

i did not care that he shot at the rabbit but i was hopeing that one of ours dogs did not get shot the way joey was yelling i thought for sure he shot a dog he had every right to be there to but find your own dame rabbit that one was ours i have never heard the f word used that much in the same sentence before i think he may need a bar of soap

Joey, I like to support hunters who are ethical and promote safe hunting. You, IMO, were wrong in your correction of an individual who may be, and probably is, COMPLETELY ignorant in any situation like he was in today. I would have asked who was in charge of the whole situation and explained calmly, without cursing, the UNWRITTEN rules of rabbit hunting. Again, this in my opinion, but I would have definitely not berated anyone, let alone a kid, IF IT WAS A 10 YR OLD. Maybe you felt okay at the end, but you just made a future hunter look like an idiot and yourself look like a less than desirable person to be around. I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND the safety issues first for people and then for dogs, but this could have been the most valuable teaching experience this individual ever gets. Again, I am not trying to be offensive just stating what I would have done and hope this does not happen to anyone at all!!!! If it was an area accessible to others you always run the risk of this happening. We hunt state land regularly and I have been in some situations before that we simple removed ourselves from and moved on. JMO's on this as you asked. Take care.

Wardog you obviously have more of a problem with the man filling his tailagate full of rabbits than the issue at hand.

I treat a man just like he acts, if he wants to be a little beeatch and jump in front of my dogs to kill a rabbit than that is how he WILL be treated.
To be honest its hard to say how I would have handled the situation since I was not there.

I had the same thing happen to me last year. A guy let his young son shoot at a rabbit we were running! I walked over to them and Asked did u get em. His dad said not even close. I laughed and kept on hunting.

Accosting the man, with his children present , swearing is definitely not a good thing. Accosting a stranger carrying a gun ,while you are swearing and also carrying a gun is foolish.These type of things can escalate out of control. Joey,with all do respect ,you handled this poorly.

Joeyman, I say this in kindness my friend, you were wrong. Had I or anyone else of your knowledge of fair play have done this, then there would have been no excuse . I think ignorance was at play here. ( please do not confuse stupidity with ignorance) I don't think under the circumstances that the other party understood the " rules" . With two ten year old children present whether the rules were understood or not you were a little out of line my friend. You should have in a very nice way explained the proper thing to do or not to do ,and then invited this group to learn something from you and your friends. I'm sure you had the ability to get those kids in on more shooting and fun in one day than the good folks that they were with were capable of doing in months. I wish you would have taken advantage of what you could have done for them .

this is exactly the reason people do the things they do , its never there fault , or i didnt know , didnt know the rules , they knew those wasnt their dogs , same thing happens during deer season with people hunting others treestands , they say " i didnt know it was yours " they darn sure knew it wasnt theirs , do they honestly think the state supplies the dogs for rabbit hunting or treestands for deer hunting ! disrepectful hunters is what is ruining all hunting in my opinion , good job Joey , if someone doesnt have anymore respect for me than that then they have even less for the safety of my dogs , they aint hunting with me

I would had said.We charge 25 dollors evertime you miss a rabbit and 25 hunderd if you shoot a dog.75 dollors if you kill a rabbit,100 dollors a person just to hunt over the dogs, come on be glad to have you an be nice about it.Money first.Had a track of land to deer hunt on and having trouble with deer hunters on it.So I put up a sign that said.Deer hunters welcome 200 hundred a day pay on the spot.Never had any trouble with deer hunters again.Let them know up frount hunting is not free.

i talked to the guy after joey got done and ask what the hell happend he said i shot at the rabbit your dogs were running he said i do not see what the big deal was then said i am done we are all mad and have guns and he left it at that
