Once again I don't get the fact if a dog barks ya better speak up and claim, lots of grey to that right of the bat. Breaking the plain/ so dogs are hammering we see the rabbit ol blues cuts the pack comes from nowhere breaks the plain he is scored. Don't get me wrong I had a great time being there just a lot left for the wrong dog to win a cast if ya got a slick handler.

Jimmie, maybe I'm just dumb to the fact, but how can a slick handler do anything or manipulate the score? Just curious

pkc fixes alot of problems lp creates like not rewarding swinging dogs. if dog swings and misses line it scores 0 and dog in back of pack 3rd gets 50. hard to overcome a 0. if dog barks 3 times over 10 min -100 points hard to overcome mistakes. but it does create its whole new set of problems like not promoting a dog that finds a check. and rewards a dog for following all day and never being the 1st dog. if you get 75 points on every score it is gonna make you a contender with out anything but a me too dog that likes to stay close to the pack. neither are perfect but find a dog that excels in both formats and you are more likely to find a complete hound. i also like both styles of judging but lp judges are fewer and you have no vote in decisions. also lp scoring is alot judges discretion so every cast will not be scored the same. i know i would rather walk around as a group and look for rabbit crossing and score it than run my guts out trying to keep up with these fast little hounds then have somebody mad at me because i missed their dogs check over in the next county. time will tell what everyone prefers, maybe we can keep both.

i enjoy pkc but not as much as little pack. if they only scored first strike and first line it would be better. why reward medeocracy? if you take a minus or miss a line you might as well put your dog back in the box. lose a 100 to only gain 25. doesn't make much sense. same problem with ukc. but i enjoy it so i will continue to go from time to time.

Ok
Guy's let me just say this i have trailed in every format our club made a mistake about 14 years ago and turned down PKC and went UKC wish we had not done that.
Lets forget the money and talk dogs as PKC Eastern region Rep i will tell you we work very hard to make PKC fair and Fun and we will countinue to do that.
The dog style is not that much different that Lp or UKC HB for some people its hard to get over the fact we don't score checks well here's why!
In Arha we have a judge that works very hard to get what he can but were i live he will never get anymore than 60 percent of the race so thats not real fair when your dog may have been the one that picked up checks the other 40 percent of the race in UKC its a Hound and Hunting format like our but guy's you can't sit back and here the race an score checks on what you herd you need to see it this is why we just don't score check in PKC.
As far as numbers at the hunts i think everyone is hurting right now but our number are growing even though there not up to where we would like yet they are growing.
And on the problem front as a PKC rep i get to see alot and i can tell ya guy's i see so much less than what i have in any other format i ever ran in and one thing about it if someone is cheating we want to know about it.
There's never been a format that i have ran and not liked but PKC has been great for us the last couple of years and like someone said i have dust collectors in my kennel but cash in the pocket is very nice sometimes.
So i would like to invite you guy's to try PKC and maybe you might like it.

In every format you have to know the rules to the T when your trying to compete in the big hunts. The difference with PKC and most other formats you go to most trials week after week you start to see who are the shady guys who will fight and carry on and try and bully there dogs to a win the difference is in PKC those guys last about 3 hunts then they are barred PKC has an extremely low tolerance for cheaters they may win a few hunts but enough people questioning and signing in the grey and some one is getting kicked out. Our club has hosted a ton of PKC trials and to date there has been maybe one question on a card and that question was a simple rules misunderstanding with a new judge and was fixed shortly after.

Formats will only be as clean and honest as the people running in them the registry can't bar people without someone else standing up and pointing out the problem and the registry taking swift action to prevent it from happening again.

Jimmie, in the coon dog trial world the dogs are "CALLED" struck and treed and awarded points for the order in which they were "CALLED" by their handler. What you describe is common practice in more coon dog trilas than I care to elaborate on. This then goes back to my previous post when I stated knowing the rules and enforcing them is two entirely different situations and I have seen many a dog place in trials where their handler "CALLED" them from another man's dog's bark. This is what I call "slick" handlers but the facts are they are cheaters plain and simple. It just amazed me how few judges would or were able to determine what was going on when a handler would bring this crap to their attention. Then when you would question it all and go back to the club house to the master of hounds to protest they would "ALWAYS" side with the judge and these "slick" handlers knew that because it is nearly impossibly to overturn a call made by someone the clubs master of hounds knows when that person wasn;t out on the cast to experiance it as it was happening. Hell, boys I have seen semi silent to dead silent tree hounds win casts and even champion out under the hands of a "slick" handler. I could go on for pages of how "handlers" won with less than the top dog and in fact with a dog that didn't even met the rules such as being open and I won't even get into the alligators!
