I agree Casey, but how many fast dogs are out there that can consistently take pack pressure without having to be soloed to keep them that way? Would like to have a pack of those.

Kinda funny that there are guys out there deliberately breeding dogs that outrun their "brains" so to speak yet the dog gets all the blame for not having any

Really??

I believe it all comes down to brains. The brains control it all, from hunt to nose.

it boils down to run what you like and can put up with. who cares what the other guy is running he has to feed it.

Beginning to like the solo hunting.... Can't blame it on over competitiveness. Running was excellent with fresh snow last night.

Dave . That pic is awesome,!!
How her nose power on tough conditions?
Haven't tested Blondie yet.

BC.
Stan's dogs are awesome on ice and snow.
A lot has to do with breeding , alot with brains, and a lot with being exposed to the elements day after day, as they are conditioned to run in tough conditions.

As far as speed, my packs are now basically a step over medium.
I like them to hunt closr and account for each rabbit they run.
I hunt areas near homes and roads. So that type hound suites me best.
I just can't hav hounds searching far out from me.

After many years I am very happy with my current packs.

Anthony,

She found her limits yesterday. It was high temp of 3 deg F -5 overnight and 12-14" of dry powder snow. She didn't like to swim in snow to find rabbit and when she found a hare it was 10 min at slow pace and she lost it never to recover it. Not impressive.....would like to own a pair that could get it done in those conditions.

I agree speed and brains and natrule born controle in a fast dog has always caused medium to slowe dogs to get desprated or get left behind. YOU CAN TEACH A DOG EVERYTHING BUT HOW TO USE HIS SPEED. ( if you want to spend a lot of time with them. They either have enough to stay with what ever the other hounds you have or have to make sacrifises to stay with them. Here in central OH I have run both.
I like speed but they've got to have nose , brains , cause with out that you got just another beagle like everybody else. I never realy like slowe to medium speed but i have found over the past 28 yrs of running fast and medium speed dogs thier are only a few great onces. :hammer:
So keep on trying and if you find a great one don't let it go. How will you now a great one ? You will now because now matter what speed of dogs you runn him with he will flate lead the pack in getting the rabbit first in every way :D
NO MISTAKES OF ANY KIND :argue: LOTS OF AVERAGE DOGS OUT THIER BUT ONLY A HANDFULL ARE GREAT ;)
