I must have overlooked Risen Star, good to know. The horse truly was a freak. His Belmont time is absurd. Just goes to show you though, any horse/animal can have a bad day, I think he raced 6 times after that Belmont and was beaten twice. That's my next thing, these horses today aren't trained and ran like the horses were in Secretariat's day. He ran 21 races combined in his 2 and 3 year old seasons. 21!! To compare, the Belmont was Tonalist's 5th race of his life, with only two more on the schedule. Until someone trains their horse to run 3 races in 5 weeks and not be tired, I'm not sure I'll ever see a Triple Crown winner. And I'm not sure that anyone is going to put their horse under that much stress now as much of a racket the stud barn is.Moore Beagles wrote:Smoke'n Mack, we got something in common, I've always loved anything written or recorded about Big Red.. Lol that's kinda my goal..
Oh by the Way A Son of Secretariat , Risen Star won the Preakness and The Belmont in 1988, in the 2nd fastest time.. second to Daddy, but that time will never be Beat.....2:24..
The Derby that Year was Huge, easy for the best horse not to be in a position to win.
He had a few other good offspring, but he was never gonna reproduce himself!
How about Sham too, that horse was incredible in his own right. His heart weighed 18 pounds. Had he not been in the same crop of 3 year olds as Secretariat, he no doubt would have joined the triple crown winner's list.
