Just a Side Note
IF we are goin to go by the English Standard then all those Dogs measuing Under 13" would also be disqualified as they only have ONE Class
13" to 16"

Here is a link to the comparison of the original standard and the 1900 revised standard

A few years ago the ARHA had a division called "Hare Hound". This division let all bassets and beagles under 16" compete. But then you had dogs showing up that were 16 1/2" tall. Soon the rules committee went back to a 15" maximum height, and i also think the bassetts were ruled out. :)

I see your Rambo hound is 14-7/8 , did you have to trim any hair to get him under ?
Has he ever been measured out ?

I would have to agree with this. There has to be a way to measure dogs the same way.

THIS POST GET'S MORE FUNY EACH TIME .THE OLD SAYING IS IF YOU CAN'T BEAT'EM MEASURE'EM OUT .I HAVE NEVER SAW A TRIAL WHERE SIZE MATTERED BUT IT IS A RULE .THE ONLY PROBLEM -I- HAVE WITH IT IS NKC SHOULD DEAL WITH IT AND NOT CAUSE THE HANDLER'S TO BECOME ENEMIES IF YOU ASK FOR A MEASURE .I THINK THE HOUND'S SHOULD BE MEASURED BEFORE THE ENTRY IS PAID.I HAVE A STAND MY SELF BUT IF I HAVE DOUBT'S I WILL ASK THE BEED INSPECTER TO MEASURE IT BEFORE I ENTER.-----------BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING ABOUT ALL THIS IS PEOPLE OVER LOOK ALOT OF GOOD HOUND'S BECAUSE OF SIZE WANT BREED TO WANT RUN THEM I WAS THAT WAY FOR AWHILE TILL I FIGURED OUT I LIKE A BIG STRONG HOUND IF YOU WANT TO RUN WITH HIM FINE IF YOU DON'T THAT'S FINE JUST REMEMBER DON'T SAY I BEAT OLE SO AND SO IF YOU MEASURED IT OUT BECAUSE YOU DID NOT..-----AND BEFORE YOU ASK I DON'T HAVE AN OVER SIZE HOUND IN MY KENNEL------------

One solution to avoid handlers becoming enemies is for everyone to be adults and realize that if you get measured out, you're the one who broke the rules.

Also if I ran in a registry that required me to ask for hounds to be measured, then I would ask for every hound every time. If every handler did this, it wouldn't take long before the oversized dogs stopped showing up.

I've run borderline dogs in UKC and AKC and I know that I run the risk of being measured out everytime but I accept that when I load the dog. If they get measured out I don't blame the measurer or anyone else who thought the dog might be big. I don't even start asking that the rules be changed because I have a bigger dog.

I find it ironic that those who want the size limit raised or eliminated are the same ones who say that size doesn't make any difference. My question to you then is if size doesn't make a difference then why do you want to run bigger dogs? Why not just get smaller dogs?

Yes , that hound just tips the ARHA measuring stand  all I did wrong was feed my beagle twice a day as a pup . I had a male about the same age from another litter NO close kin whatsoever , and I'm pretty sure he was over too

Buddy

ps. You'll see my growing pups are a lot thinner now than they were back then :!:

Jimmy,
I have found when kenneling hounds together some starve some get fat.
I feed all of my hounds seperately unless I have two that eat almost Identical to each other ( and that's RARE) . I portion the ammount of feed they get by looking each dogs body and judging what they need to stay in good physical shape . If I do kennel two together , that eat differently (meaning ones a pig) I police them to make sure each gets their fair ammount . It's just what seems to work for me . I work at home so I can do that . I understand that it's much HARDER on people who have to work loooong hours or have to use automatic feeders .
Oh yeah , I may get my measuring stand back out ;) I don't see how on earth he could be over it's not the legs as much as it is the big bones and deep chest .

AS FAR AS I CAN TELL THE ONLY THING THAT IS HURT BY MEASURING A DOG OUT IS THE BREE IT DOSEN'T BOTHER ME OR THE MEN I RUN WITH WE RUN WHAT WE LIKE AND AS FAR AS TRIALS HELPING TO BETTER THE BREED IT GOES BOTH WAY'S .FOR THE MOST PART-- YES-- BUT YOU HAVE A LOT OF R.CH AND F.CH. THAT COULD NOT RUN A RABBIT IN A STARTING PEN. BUT PEOPLE BREED THEM ANYWAY BECAUSE THEY SELL .
ANYONE WHO HAS RUN L.P.KNOW'S THAT SIZE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WINNING .I HAVE SAW A LOT OF BIG DOGS CULLED IN THE LAST FEW YEARS THAT WOULD SHOW A LOT OF THE SO CALLED CHAMPS HOW TO RUN. BUT THEY WANT GET BRED TO.I HAVE CULLED MY SHARE TO, BUT LATELY, I HAVE BEEN PUTTING THEM WHERE I CAN BRED TO THEM LATER.IF WE DON'T THE BREED WILL BE HURT IN THE LONG RUN.-----NOTICE I DID NOT MENTION THE RULES.-MOSTLY BECAUSE IT'S NOT IMPORTANT TO ME.

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I HAVE A MALE HERE AT THE HOUSE THAT IS OVERSIZED,I RECIEVED A PM THE OTHER DAY FROM A GENTLEMAN THAT TOLD ME THAT IF I BRED TO HIM I WAS HURTING THE BREED.

THIS SAME GENTLEMAN WENT ON TO TELL ME THAT HE HAS A MALE THAT IS SIRED BY MY OVERSIZED DOG,DIRECT SON,HE SAID THAT HE WAS THE BEST DOG HE HAD AND EVER SAW RUN A RABBIT,BUT HE TOLD ME HE WAS OVER TOO AND THAT IF I BRED MY MALE I WAS HURTING THE BREED BECAUSE HE IS OBVIOUSLY THROWING THE OVERSIZE TRAIT.HE HAD THE SON FIXED SO HE CAN NOT REPRODUCE.

BUT IF HE IS THROWING THAT NICE OF PUPS,WHY WOULD I BE WRONG IN BREEDING TO HIM IF I USE SMALLER SIZED FEMALES?

THIS MALE WAS PUT IN ONE ARHA TRIAL,THE SPRING NATIONALS AND HE PLACED 6TH,HE IS A NICE DOG,AND IS THROWING NICE DOGS,BUT I CAN NOT TRIAL HIM BUT YOU BETTER BELIEVE I AM GONNA GET SOME PUPS OUT OF HIM.

Lol wow where would i be without the simple views of tim h in life. Gosh thats a great solution! picture this (hypethetical situation i'm sure it's happened to someone before tho) you get an awesome pup comes on strong you're proud of him he's doing great leading packs you want to trial him to show him off you win a couple trials he's almost a champion he hits 18 months old and he starts measuring out!! that sucks. hmm ok i'll sell him and buy a smaller dog b/c i knew the whole time that he was going to be too big from the day i bought him and i just put all that work into him for no reason at all cuz i knew he was gonna turn out to be right at 15 inches. haha i know i jist asked for a pissing match with you but sometimes practicality is'nt always so practical. you can breed two 10" beagles togethor and get a 16 inch dog. so you explain to me how you just own smaller dogs ?
