Big Dog Thats not for me to say but I believe that the members of the organization should be able to vote dont you? Thats the way it use to be and it seem to work just fine. Just like if you follow the rules and bylaws the only people who have the right to barr you is the watchdog committe.
Re: Little Pack Trophies verse Money
toldyouso, i think its just fine the way it is, if it wasnt then it prob wouldnt be the biggest beagle event going rite now. but me, you, or anybody else isnt going to change it. so just let it be and quit digging yourself a deeper hole.
Re: Little Pack Trophies verse Money
Big Dog i dont see me digging a hole so dont worry about me i can handle myself. And when you said arha doesnt have more then one hunt thats because PKC has mandtory splits dont agree with it but its there rules and i am ok with it. Talking about the largest organization is not NKC it is AKC. Now if you r talking about entries you r right but thats only because guys like me bring 3 to 4 dogs to the hunt and 10 to 15 dogs to the world hunt which you can not do in a hound and hunter format. But from reading your post i am sure you knew that because you seem to know it ALL LMAO. At least in PKC everyone has a say. Even when there is a protest we put together a panel not just one master of the hounds but ha Arha is running like a dictatorship and if you like that kind of stuff maybe you r living in the wrong COUNTRY.
Re: Little Pack Trophies verse Money
yoldyouso, no i dont know everything but i am not the one talking about arha needing to change things. what i do know is i can still run in little pack trials, not gonna sit and argue with you. so why cant you just let it be.

Re: Little Pack Trophies verse Money
What would you say if there was no trophies and or money? Maybe a hard standard on what is awarded champion status. Who would show up? If beagle registration was limited in effort to control dog trading or guys breeding countless pups. Would the quality of the breed improve or make the problems worse? Somtimes people are their own worst enemies. Focus needs to be on the future of what beagling will be. Not for future generations to abandon the huge problems we have made because they lack the grit. The stuff people are complaing about didnt start yesterday. People have adapted to the rules set in place. You dont like it? Look in the mirror, we are all to blame. Much easier to avoid the bs and run and hunt what you like. If you have a good hound you ll know it... People will find YOU for its blood or offspring.

Throw me to the wolves and i will return leading the pack!

Re: Little Pack Trophies verse Money
This is one of the problems I have with PKC. I may have a couple nice young hounds and I have to travel 2-4 hours at least just to put one dog in. I own and hunt a pack of dogs and spending money on fuel, hotel, food, entry fees etc. just to run one hound is not a great idea to me. No matter how much money I could win, there is no way I could make back my expenses. I don't trial for money or a trophy. I do it for fun. Running just one hound after the training and trip is not a reward for me. I am glad others enjoy it. The PKC KY state championship had 20 dogs.ARHA Ky state last year had 215 dogs. I vote people like trophies.toldyouso wrote: Now if you r talking about entries you r right but thats only because guys like me bring 3 to 4 dogs to the hunt and 10 to 15 dogs to the world hunt which you can not do in a hound and hunter format.
Our club could never run PKC. We just had 41 dogs at our last ARHA LP hunt and the club actually made enough money to pay all expenses and put some back for member activities and land leases. There may have been 20 people at the hunt. One dog each limits what we can do. How many dogs must be in a PKC hunt for the club to break even? We pay $25 for a meeting place each hunt, $25 each hunt for a state hunt permit, and then what does PKC charge? I am sure there is a charter, entry fee take and maybe a hunt permit fee (like UKC) not to mention insurance and hunting ground leases. Add to that what is paid back to the entries, and I don't understand how a PKC club could survive in a rural area. Is there something in the formula I am missing?

Bragging rights is enough for me. Keep your money and the trophy.

Re: Little Pack Trophies verse Money
Just a thought. If you didn't have any dogs and you were wanting to go borrow say 3 to 5 dogs to go to a trial with, you can only stop at 1 guys house to pick up 3 to 5 dogs that you feel comfortable to pay the money to win your trophy. How many guys pack 3 to 5 dogs that you would feel comfortable they had a true shot of winning? After we get some responses I will carry on.

Re: Little Pack Trophies verse Money
I think you missed my point or I failed to explain it well enough. I actually had 2 points.
1. How can a club survive running just PKC?
2. I don't care about the trophy and I wouldn't care about the little bit of cash (never going to be what you pay in if you always won). As Casey Harner said, it is more about knowing you won and bragging rights as far as winning. For me, I don't win much. I go for the fun of the hunt and the friendships I have made. I just think it is much more enjoyable for me to be able to hunt my 2 or 3 best dogs. In every pack there are dogs that are better on hard scent days, wide open running, or just jumping rabbits when they always seem to go straight to a hole with no other scoring. I would hate to have to choose between them some days while guessing conditions or running styles and being wrong. Also dogs have off days. I don't like "putting all my eggs in one basket" as they say and only run one dog. (DISCLAIMER- I currently only have 2 dogs right now and only trialing 1).

Is it true that in pkc in order for a handler to protest a call in the field the handler has to pay $25 before they meet with the panel?toldyouso wrote: At least in PKC everyone has a say.
