I can't remember a stud producing such amazing talent from a variety of females. Oliver is not just producing a lot of placing hounds or fair FC's, he is producing FC's that are so good they make a name for themselves; not just an Oliver dog, but FC's that are the real deal that win time after time & demand stud use themselves at a very young age. And not only males, but females as well winning against strong competition. I haven't got any yet, but plan on breeding a fine bitch to him as soon as she comes in heat.

8 or 9 I think. Bob King hasn't ever promoted a stud dog very much; very humble man.

Take Oliver, I don't know one thing about the dog but, I suppose he produces good field trial quality hounds when bred to a certain type bitch. Breed him to a different style hounds and you don't know what you are going to get.
People are quick to blame every bad litter on the bitch. Its probably not the bitch its a combination of breeding different style dogs and expecting something great. It doesn't work and immediately its stud dogs fault in the eyes of the bitch's owner and the bitch's fault in the opinion of the Stud owner.
When in fact its the breeders fault for not doing his homework. Both the stud owner and the bitch owner.

We have a winner .
Mr. Cornett , I wasn't being negative towards you .... just the flavor of month chaser's that don't care about the hounds they produce ... they only try to capitalize on a studs name for $$$$ . It's not my place to tell anyone what to breed their bitch to ... just rag'n some folks !! However our original said " STUD DOG " not stud dogs !!

I have never seen Oliver. Do not know nothing about him.
I have seen one hound directly out of him run. Truth was he was lil timid in field, Lil loose mouth (would pull minuses) and lacked Lil hunt. (Might run the fire outta one for 30+ min then might quit, might not) This is all on cotton tail.

I'm in no way down grading Oliver, along with that I'm not down grading the bitch which I've never seen run either.
I do think that he was bred due to being popular, and not bred to match up to the bitch.

Due your homework, try to pair or help fill in gaps, study the hounds behind your hounds, know what your wanting out of your pups, bring the most potential out of your pups as they have, and hope for the best, because there no control over genetic make up.

This is more great solid advice . Right in-line with what NETN and I laid out . Again I'll say it's a crap shoot ........ but the more info you have on dogs in both the sire & dam & what's behind them you can better know/see what you may get in the pups.

All dogs are going to throw culls, even great studs, but the good ones by Oliver are very , very good & finish at a young age. They are also known for extreme hunt which is needed in our Mid-West hounds today. I think he will improve the breed in many areas especially desire & hunt. There is already a long list of FC's sired by him that are tremendous talents in their own right. I hope I get a chance to breed directly to him.

That's funny cause I've heard the opposite about his pups... I have also heard that Bob King is a very respected hounds man and very nice guy as well. So my comment about Oliver has nothin to do his owner. but I just think it's funny how people hear two completely different things about a very known stud hound, I guess it just depends on who you talk to about it.

Rumor in PA is, if you want hunt/desire in a hound, Choppers the one to get it done.

I respect all good hounds & bloodlines, but a jealous heart can lie or just hear what it wants. It would be hard for me to say Oliver doesn't produce great offspring and try to stand by that statement with a confident look without wondering the moment when I would be proven wrong over & over, but some guys are like that. I just ain't jealous over dogs and am smart enough to know if you want the best dogs, make sure you get the entire scoop about what he is producing as a whole & not judge a dog or bloodline by one or two dogs either good or bad. I learned a long time ago; listen to no one much, but your own eyes won't lie. Keep getting beat, quit, or join the best. Don't wear yourself out trying to get lucky, go with the best dogs that suit you that have a bloodline that has been bred this way for many years. Just my opinion. Sure not talking about anyone, just voicing what I think will help the breed. I don't care what man wins, I want beagles to keep improving. Surely we have enough intelligence & honesty to make this happen without too much b.s. at the trials. I don't know any big wigs that deserve anything their dog doesn't deserve & I am definitely not one myself. It's a struggle to raise quality dogs; time & money that most can't spare.

Yeah Oliver ain't the only choice and may not be right for every bitch. More quality hounds to choose from than ever before. There is no really wrong choice to make, but talking about the best according to numbers & FC quality offspring, lets not wait until he's dead to appreciate him. Bob King is a great guy, but he don't care about personal awards; he's been in this for the long haul for the love of the sport not to build himself up. Man if some proud man had Oliver we would really try to knock those Oliver dogs down to size. These FC's quit winning and placing when their owner stops putting them in the trials. I can't remember a better producer in my lifetime anyway. Not many studs produce better than themselves in several cases; not that come to mind with so many different dams. The truth hurts everyone now and then, but no need to fight the truth. It will stand. And please don't skim over my posts & miss my view; Oliver isn't the only dog to breed to, but at this time he has produced more dogs with the wow factor that win with brains & guts. No need for dogs to open unless they are moving the line; more brains, more ability to keep the tongue under control. Lets promote more silence during the check. Silence is golden sometimes.

I don't recall ever seeing an ad where Mr. King himself has been promoting the Oliver dog. If that is true, it speaks even more of what the dog is given the number of times he's been bred to. I know nothing about the man or the dog but know a handful of guys that are primarily "gunners" from hare country in MI and WI that speak highly of both.
