TC g2 45/410 14" barrel

Post by wcbeagle »

I have found a new TC Contender in 45/410 with a 14 in barrel plus a encore with a 12" barrel. Does anyone know what the chamber length is? I forgot to ask the dealer.

For the people that rabbit hunt with a Contender what size shot do you use? We use to have a guy in the club that I think he used 4 shot.

My buddy used 3 inch 6 shot in a 14" encore barrel on a hunting trip we just took he killed around 10 cottontails with it no problem really surprised me how good it done. I use 3" 6 shot 410 in over and under also works great

I use a TC Contender with the standard barrel, which I think is a 10 inch barrel. I use 3 inch 4 shot. Tricky, but the more you use it the more comfortable you become with it. Plus it's easy to carry.

Went to pickup the contender today and ran into a problem. The gun was actually a contender with a 22 match 12" barrel. When we put the 12" 45/410 barrel on it the hammer would not cock. It would only pull back about 1/4 of the distance. We tried several time with the same result. Put the 22 barrel on it and it worked fine. Anyone know why this was happening?

Yes I've seen this problem before there is barrel lugs that when you close your barrel they go up under a shelf on your frame if those lugs don't go in far enough you won't be able to pull your hammer back I've heard of people taking a marker to the lugs and opening and shutting the barrel until it leaves contact marks on the marker on the lugs then take a file to the contact marks just taking off a little at a time until the lugs will go in far enough and your hammer will pull back. I hope I didn't make that sound to confusing but that's your problem. Also a gen 1 contender if you pulled the hammer back and released it the barrel has to be broke open and shut before the hammer will pull back again you don't have to do that with the generation 2

Is that the silver colored lug at the bottom of the barrel assembly on each side? Also does anyone know if Thompson has quit making the Contender frame and barrels. I have called all over Virginia and cannot find another one anywhere. One dealer said they had quit making them.
