Time to get back to running!!!

Today is the last day of deer gun season , the dogs have had a week of the kennel and believe me they needed it . We hunted every other day for 2 straight weeks putting 20 - 28 miles each day running cottontails , sore feet bloody tails faces and ears cut up . They looked pretty bad but never once showed signs of quitting , which is a must to stay in my kennel. Run to catch and that is what they do , I have a big male out of Willie Nelson that will bring them to me and the last 4 hunts we had he brought me 4 one each time that they caught that had never been shot at each ran for 1 to 1 1/2 hours solid running!!! I too am ready to get back in the woods , looking forward to some more big running. I hope everyone else is having a good safe season, it is not about the numbes killed but more about the good chases and dog work. Remember "Its not how fast they run its how well they run fast" . Good luck and stay safe my friends, Ron Preston

Where are you located ?

What blood line you running?

We are in Ohio, we run hare bred hounds. Branko, Shaker,Viagra, Satsuma,Striker,Michigan hare breeding . These hounds flat put out and get the job done. Now we don't kill a lot of rabbits maybe 2 a hunt , thats how you put the miles on them. We cut dogs loose about 8:15 am and don't come back to the truck until about 4;00 pm, pack a lunch and run em like fox hounds. Thats what we like , I consider myself more a rabbit runner than a rabbit hunter. These hounds are high strung and it takes a little while to get the wire edge off , then they just settle in and drive . Nothing better than listening to a pack drive him out and turn and bring him back.

Kwolf I hear ya!! Bunnies have been running good here. I been just letting the hounds run also. Been having some good long runs watched one run for 1:45 min. Yesterday. My theory is dead rabbits don’t run. Enjoy the rest of your season.

Nothing wrong with harvesting some to eat. I don't eat hare anymore and I sure would rather have them to run again. Found where one had been killed and eaten this past weekend in a favorite haunt of mine. Just a bit of bone and pinch of fur left. Very few hare in that area. Dogs put on 8 miles and couldn't come up with one in that spot. Hare are pretty low on the food chain. Every predator is after them. Hit another spot and jumped right off. Ran that one for an hour and 50 mins. I pulled them off as it was getting dark and beginning to snow pretty hard.
