Deer Dog.

Well I had a young male hound come into our hunting camp the night before gun season. The wife took to him and she does not like too many of my beagles so I thought I would give him a try.
I got him sarted on rabbits rather easy. He is probably in the 6 month range, I can tell because his testicles have not dropped yet. The problem is he has run deer 4 times now.
I have shocked him off them each time. I have never had a dog run deer after two sessions of the shock collar at full dose. He got 2 of my younger dogs to go with him each at a different time. They got there lessons also.
My question is how long should I work with this hound, before I decide he is hopeless and spay him and give him away as a pet. I may have got some good training in with my young dogs, by shocking them, but I do not know if this pup is going to come out of it. Anyone had a pup this stubborn about running deer? He runs a good rabbit and other than this major fault he has no problems. And my wife does like him.
