Well I had a young male hound come into our hunting camp the night before gun season. The wife took to him and she does not like too many of my beagles so I thought I would give him a try.

I got him sarted on rabbits rather easy. He is probably in the 6 month range, I can tell because his testicles have not dropped yet. The problem is he has run deer 4 times now.

I have shocked him off them each time. I have never had a dog run deer after two sessions of the shock collar at full dose. He got 2 of my younger dogs to go with him each at a different time. They got there lessons also.

My question is how long should I work with this hound, before I decide he is hopeless and spay him and give him away as a pet. I may have got some good training in with my young dogs, by shocking them, but I do not know if this pup is going to come out of it. Anyone had a pup this stubborn about running deer? He runs a good rabbit and other than this major fault he has no problems. And my wife does like him.

Shock him harder and longer!

If that doesn't work, send him to Bunnyseeker down here in Alabama. He can use him. lol

I talked to another buddy and said because of his age it may take a few more times. Alabama Swamper I will take your advice and run the battery down if it happens again.

If nothing else works you could let the guy that posted the HELP ME topic in this forum know. He is looking for a dog just like that! Read the post if you haven't yet!
Good Luck! Jaz

You can send him to me in N.C. I'll run the tar out of him on deer,he would fit right with my pack. I have seven that only run deer and you should hear them putting a deer in the wind!
