Best day hunting

Just wondering what the most rabbits some of you guys have shot in one day is. I just talked to a buddy of mine and a friend of his went out last Saturday with 4 other guys and they came home with 23! The guy said he estimated they got 35 up. I didn't think that was possible around here anymore these days. He said that they hunted on some Amish land and alot of the time would kick 2-3 rabbits out of the same bush. I guess there is something to farmers leaving fence rows alone and allowing cover to remain huh. I wish that more of them would do this.

TIC, YOU WON'T JUMP THAT MANY RABBITS IN S.E. INDIANA. I HAVE HUNTED AMISH LAND & EVERYWHERE IN BETWEEN. I AM IN S.E. IND. & THE RABBIT POPULATION IS SUFFERING HERE. THE MOST I'VE KILLED IN A DAY IS 5, WHICH IS THE LIMIT.

Mike - That was my first thought too, but my buddy told me that he went out to the guys house that night and they had 23 dead bunnies laying there. Also this happened in Switz. county (your neck of the woods). I agree it seems like the population around here has been down this year (I'm in Ripley county), the best we have done in a day has been 14 jumped and 7 shot (done this twice with 3 hunters and 2 dogs both times). Most hunts have not been near this good. Hopefully things will get better next season.

When I was in the army and stationed at Ft Benning GA we hunted an area off of South Lumpkin Road in Columbus GA right behind the elks lodge. We killed 48 rabbits with a mixture of cottontails and caincutters. We went back to the same spot the next day and killed 30 more in the same exact spot. We ended up killing 130 rabbits in about 5 trips to that spot. Now get this, there were at least 2 other groups that were hunting this area and all of them killed over 50 rabbits also. We had special permission to hunt it since they were getting ready to turn it into a golf course. The place is now a real pretty golf course and walking trail. I was there over the Xmas holidays and drove down this road and counted at least 5 dead caincutters on the road. That is why I hate golf.(LOL) This place was infested with rabbits worse than booneville Indiana and it had both canecutters and cottontails and marsh rabbits(blue tails).

I need to move
More I have gotten was 3 hare. Could have probabaly gotten more but our rule was they had to circle at least one full circle before we could even load the guns. The run is as important or more so than the harvest. There is always that one trigger happy guy that tags alone who keeps chaseing the pack and jump shooting. But he sits at home now.

Wow, thats ALOT of bunnies in the bag! I'd say the clean farming practices do hurt the rabbit populations some. Those brushy fence rows and briar patches in drainage lines are becoming a thing of the past for sure. 23, that's alot of shooting, I'd guess alot of them were shot on the jump.

Darrin the best day I've had hunting was four of us killing 22 rabbits out in Mo. We didn't shoot any on the jump, but killed a lot of sidewinders, the ones trying to move away from the chase. Also had several splits due to the large number of rabbits in the area. We had 8 dogs down. I think jump shooting with a large number of dogs down and 4 hunters is asking for trouble!!!

Best day we ever had was 20.
Limit here is 5 per person.
We don't jump shoot.
Most of the time I say we avarage around 5-7 in a day.
Usually 150-200 a year.

The most I remember killing in one day is 17. Me and two other guys, and we had four dogs that day. Then about a month ago I went with two of my friends and had nine dogs and killed 15 rabbits. Thats the two biggest for me that I can remember. Jesse Duncan

Sounds like you guys are doing alot better than we are. We used to kill around 150 a year a few years ago but now adays I am hoping for 50+. I guess I need to hook up with the guy my buddy knows. The best we ever did was 16 in a day but that was about 10 years ago. Who knows maybe today will be the day. Getting ready to go in about an hour.

Great day that's alot of rabbits Dale!
I didn't mean to imply that they were indeed jump shooting...just asked if they were or not. I just know that if someone shot that many rabbits in one day around here, they would have to be in a super-dooper honey hole and would have to jump shoot them to bag that many in one day! Maybe I need to go somewhere else and rabbit hunt some where there's that many rabbits! Our hounds have to dig in multiflora and nasty briar patches and hunt hard around here to get rabbits up and going...we dont have near that many rabbits!
