I have seen, heard of , several houndsman being stopped by IDNR Conservation Officers and being asked to produce a valid Indiana hunting liscene during off season running. I can find no where in the regs where it says to run on state property one needs to possess a hunting liscene for off season game running ?

I have been stopped and asked for mine and I had to produce it or I would have got a fine. I asked him (game warden) when this became law and he said it has always been like that, for as long as he could remember. I always get mine at the first of Feb. anyway.

i'm not sure if i've seen it in the reg.'s , but since i moved here that's what everyone has told me, so I just buy it with a combo fishing liscence and don't worry about it.

Pennsylvania has had that same law inplace long before I started hunting in 1969, and I think its a stupid law.

Has not only to do with the taking of wild game but also the "pursuit", I think that's where the "catch" is...
I think the field trial permit allows you to run without, on the days of the trial...

I have ran in the off season for over 50 years without a permit untill a friend said that i could get a ticket. I would buy one Sept so i just buy it earlier no big deal. I did read somewhere that a fellow 70 years old was given a ticket in some state for running without a license.

Here is a link to a Indiana hunting board.....its a nice site. They have a place where you can "ask a conservation officer" a question and the CO will answer you. I have been told you have to have a license to run but didnt know for sure.

In Maryland, you must have a hunting license when pursueing game, that is unless it is fox. Fox hunting is exempt, that's wrong! Many legislators are fox hunters and they don't want to have to buy a license. I don't see much different between chasing fox and chasing rabbits. That's Maryland, ultra liberal!
