OK i have a puppy only 12 weeks old. She hasnt learned how to bark yet and she keeps pooping in her kennel at night only. Who ever said dogs dont lie in there own poop /urine? She will go to the bathroom at night before we kennel her up and would say about 4-5 hours later poopy and peepy right where shes sleeping. yes it is very small kennel so she wouldnt do that but she does it anyway. Another problem is she will go to the door during the day when she has to go out and if someone doesnt see her there to openit shell pee and poop right there instead of barking so we know shes there.
ANY help will be appreciated. THANK YOU

Locon,
Be patient it takes a little time, like our own kids they progress at different rates. Also, remember it also takes time to gain control over their functions. It sounds like your pup is trying. The fact that she goes and sits by the door is reason to sing her praises. Try and be careful and watch over your pup for the first half hour or so after you feed as they generally have to go soon after they eat. That is a good time to let the pup out under your watchful eye. once you witness her do her business "get real happy" and call her in and let her know your please with a job well done. Before you know it she'll have it down pat. As far as going in the crate is concerned you may not want to try and go 4-5 hours at a time. That seems a long time not to pee for a 12 week old pup. More frequent pee breaks with lots of cheering when done outside! Good luck!

thank you both for your input. Patience is a virtue correct!! She does get lots of praise when she goes outside that is never over looked. And i think we pretty much have the eating/sleeping pooping/peeing pretty down pat. Its just the night thats getting us. She doesnt cry/yelp/bark to get out she just does it inside and sleeps in it. Very strange.
Her crate is very small for her yes we had to block off a portion of it to make it smaller but it dont matter she stillpoops in there. shes got just about enought room to sleep and turn if need be and as she gets biger we will increase her space.

I would get up during the night and take her out. From what I've read, they don't really have control (or enough room) until they are about 16 weeks old. When she gets to be around 16 weeks old, she should be able to make it throught the night without having to go.

Good luck and be patient!

Vickie has it! The pup is just a baby and can't hold it all night. I've got a new problem that cropped up with one of my pups. We have a whelping house with a door that allows the hounds to come in and out as they please and a fenced in area inside for them. Inside the fenced in area is a sleeping box for them to sleep in and a floor area inside that the sleeping box sits on for them to be inside without being in their sleeping box. Our new pup has taken to going on the floor insted of going outside like he should. Now he's not going in his sleeping quarters but he is going inside the whelping house so it's a problem. Surprized his dam hasn't shook him over it yet but at any rate the temps are well below zero at night and I'm thinking he's too darn lazy to go out in the cold to do his duty. Too cold for him. Anyone have any suggestions?

Another thing to consider - how often and when do you feed your puppy? I only feed my dogs once a day and they are very healthy and happy with that arrangement. You may want to consider feed the pup in the mornings so that she has plenty of time to relieve herself during the day. As for the peeing, I'd consider taking the water bowl away from her after a certain hour so she can again relieve herself and does not replenish the supply.
Good Luck and God Bless.
