This will give me away as the rookie I am, but I want to breed my bitch next time she comes in heat....she seemed to skip a cycle so Im not sure when sh'll cycle again, im working on lining up a stud dog. My question is , when she comes in again what is the timeframe for breeding her??
Im going to do alot of research on my own but thought Id throw the question out here since you all are the experts.......Any advice is appreciated.....Im not looking to start a kennel or become a breeder just want another quality pup from my bitch.

7 days comming in 7 days breedable and 7 days going out
my last litter i had my female bred on the 10th day which i was told is supposed to be the best day and then again 2 days later i have heard it is good to let them mate a couple times to make sure she sticks

Hmm...

I too am in the same boat as you are... So far from what i've gathered you start counting on the first day you see blood.... on day 8-9 you then place the bitch in with the stud to see if she'll accept him or not.... You continue that each day until she accepts him and then once they breed you then breed her to the stud every other day 3 to 4 times.

However, if you only get one chance to breed. From what i've been told wait until about the 10th to 11th day of bleeding...

7 days coming in, 7 days in, and 7 days going out is a good rule of thumb but not every female goes by this cycle. When I am using one of my studs, I start breeding the females as soon as she "flags" and will stand for a male. I then breed her every other day as long as she will accept the male. If I use an outside stud, I go to the vet for an ovulation test which will state the day her eggs will drop which will be the best day to breed her.
As a long time stud dog owner, I have seen a lot of bitch owners try to predict the best day to breed her fail to get pups because they picked the wrong day for various reasons.
Heat periods can be very unpredictable and can vary.

The ovulation test is the best thing. I bred on the 11th day, which was the day the Vet told me was the best, not because of 11 days but because of the test. I got 13 pups from a 12 year old stud dog (Kingwood T Rex)with 1 breeding. By the way it was the 3rd day she would stand.
