I've got a female that came in heat. Took her over to my buddies to get her bred and he bred them on last Sunday. She would stand and lay her tail to the side for the stud so he went ahead and bred them. Last Sunday she had been in season for abot 9 to 10 days. He was going to bred them again on Wednesday and the stud wouldnt do anything. Put them together again today and he still wouldnt do anything. He would only sniff her.

Has anyone ever seen this happen? She is still swollen with some blood so I guess she s still in season.

Not saying you didn't, but you may not have noticed until the 3rd or 4th day.

I had a FLD CHAMP years ago that would only breed female once, he acted just like this male your talking about, never did straighten him out , lucky thing he never missed a bitch (17) of them.......

I have never bred dogs so I can't help much, but if I were you I would just hope like hell she was bred and keep on trying. I don't think it can hurt anything to keep on trying. Hopefully he will gain interest again and if not maybe she is already bred.

I have heard of that happening. A gyp's entire heat cycle lasts about 14 to 21 days. However, they are actually ovulating anywhere from a few hours to 5 days out of those 14-21.

I once had a male who would only breed a gyp who was ovulating. She could flag, tip & be swollen & bloody as she wanted to be, but unless she was actively ovulating, he wouldn't touch her. She could even go so far as to put that thing in his face & if she wasn't ovulating, he'd just he'd sniff her & walk off. I guess he could tell whether she was ovulating or not by her scent & even though the gyp might still be in season, if she wasn't ovulating he wouldn't cover her.

If it makes you fell any better Chad, she probably took! Because the male is more discriminating & will only breed an ovulating bitch, there is a higher chance the breeding will take since she is being bred at her optimum time & neither her eggs or his semen is being wasted.

Thanks for all the help. I'm hoping she took also. But if she didnt there is always the next heat cycle lol.

If she didn't "flag" the male, she probably was too far out of heat to breed.
