I just got a 10 month old pup.She hasn't ever been fooled with before, she doesn't even know her name.I had her out 3 times with my older dogs not expecting much & she started. Now my problem is every time I turn her out on a rabbit and she has a check she will come back to me.She don't come out like she is ready to quit, she comes out & hunts around. Is this something that she will come out of you think or what ?She doesn't do very well with my other dogs as far as staying with them but I think that is just where she is just starting because when the other dogs open she will look in there direction & tilt her head.Thanks.

Take her out and play hide and seek with her, with no rabbits around. The dog has to learn it can use it nose to find you again. Take this dog out with some treats by yoursleves and just practice calling her and handling her on the leash. She must learn you are the alpha of the pack and all her world revolves around you. If she spends to much time around the other dogs ; she will become to " doggie " and you are setting yourself up for problems down the road. Good luck

First of all get some basic training in the back yard. Teach her
"here"! and
sit and
stay.
Then Solo her, and stay behind her, and help her through her checks, and help her avoid checks.
Gradually let her work a line herself.
As for the packing issue.
May I suggest to brace her with your best female, and run the legs off the both of them, and see what happens............I say female because most males have a tendency to try to outrun the rookie, and females are a little better mentor.
Gradually add more pack members.

Boss hog, I would'nt sweat it too much, more than likely all your pup needs is some more solo time.I've had pups in the past do the same things yours is doing and they all come out of it with time and work.

Go back and stand where the check was and just be quiet. If she comes to you just ignore her so she gets bored with coming to you when she has a check. Always walk to where the check was when training a pup that leaves a check. Let her learn that if she hunts the area she will sometimes find the track. This will make her learn that if she hunts in the check area it will bring results. Her concentration is short at this point and she doesn't need any distractions so don't try to coax her to hunt the check and she will catch on. It takes patience just like your teacher used with you when you were young. Be prepared to stand and mill around in the check area for 10 or 15 minutes and just slowly mill around to get her to hunt. I don't like to talk to them at this point as it acts as a reward for whatever they are doing at the time and will confuse them. Let the scent of rabbit be the reward for doing right and pretty soon she learns to work the check where she lost it. Some pups may never be good dogs but if the breeding is there she should figure it out. The kind that figure it out on their own make the best dogs in the long run usually. She is coming back to you because she looking for leadership and a little help and checking to see what the leader is doing. Walk to the check and stay and she will learn the same thing. If she tries to leave, coax her back quietly and walk around in the check area like you are a little excited about that particular area. Baby steps and patience.
