I own a few guns and have a few of this and a few of that. I try to keep up on the gun world. I know that Winchester is now made in Japan. I am not saying that is a bad thing but just the way it is. If you are in the market for an older Winchester you will be buying a American made gun. What model are you in the market to buy ? There are quite a few good guns on the market today and if I were going to reccomend something it would be the Franchi AL 48. They are well made and last a life time and they are easy to carry. My 20ga weighs about 5 and 1/2 pounds. That will make a big difference on days you hunt long hours or have to walk thru deep snow. Look on gunbroker.com or gunsamerica.com and see what is on there. I know I have found a couple of great deals. Keep us updated on your what you buy.

I would get the 870. You can find accessories for Remington everywhere. I have also had great experience with their customer service too. I would also suggest it if your going to hunt deer because a rifled barrel is easy to come by.

id be up for the remington 870,,,,,,i have 2 of these in the 20 gauge,,,,,,,,,i have had one for over 10 years and it handles some abuse,,,,,,,,,,,now im the oppisite of ohio hunter,,,,i like the smooth bore slug barrels because im not into paying 8 bucks a box for slugs for a rifled barrel,,,,,,but just my own opinion,,,,,

Try the Winchester Model 50. It's automatic and holds a tight pattern for the long shots. I have a 12 ga. and love it. There more expensive than the Remington 870 but either way you cant go wrong.

I like Remington better, Not saying it shoots tighter pattern but as someone else told you it is built better than the Winchester gun you are talking about. The ejector on the new Winchester shotguns is not as strong a steel as Remington has and if a shell get caught it will scuff the steel on newer Winchesters

What about a Mossberg 500? The gun costs about the same as a barrel for the Win. or Remington and the choke tubes interchange with the WInchester. Spare barrels and tubes are 1/2 the price or less in most cases.

what about a side by side

i like my stoger uplander 20 gauge imp-mod chokes and a sling to carry on my shoulder while handling dogs its short not too heavy and handles well makes for a nice rabbit gun
