does 26-18 make dogs hotter in summer or not? what do you guys feed during the heat? if dogs are ran hard.

26/18 if Im running them.
If I aint running them I dont like them, and they are on their way out.

Higher proteen puts off more body heat,I feed 12% Year around,And I think that the high proteen is bad for there Kidneys.imao

I use 26/18 year around and have had no problem from the dogs what so ever but mine are also in the woods 20-25 hours a week too

The listing of Crude Protein on the food label can be decieving. You first must determine how much of that protein is disgestable, in order to ensure that your dog is receiving an adequate amount of it in their diet. An average protein requirement for a dog is 22%. If you have a working dog or dog that is very high energy, that protein requirement will go up. The reason that the label's claim of Crude Protein is deceiving is because there are many ingrediants that are used "as protein". One of those ingrediants is corn, which has a decent protein content, but a large % of it is not digestable. So if your dog is not digesting a percentage of the protein in the food, then it is excreted by way of the feces.
To ensure high digestability in your dogs food, you need to read the label and make sure that the sources of protein are of "meat origin" as opposed to vegetable origin.
Fat contains 9 calories per gram, protein contains 4 calories per gram, and carbohydrates contain 4 calories per gram. So if you go by this, it takes more energy (heat) to digest fat than it does to digest protein.
If anyone wants a breakdown of all of this, please let me know and I will be glad to send it to you via email. It also shows you how to correctly calculate the amount of food "your" dog needs based on it's energy level, growth factor, and the type of dog food you feed. This is a formula that you use to "do the math"

i feed ultra 24/20 all year and i work my dogs every chance i get wheter its hot or not,,,,,,i mostly run in hot weather,,,,,

I feed Diamond 21/12 in the summer, and Diamond 26/18 in the winter.

I don't know about hotter or not, but I switched last week from 21/12 to 26/18 because of the cooler weather coming, and my dogs drink alot more water in a days time.
