We call that (in eastern Ky) "a'fixin' to get took!" Or, in plain English, someone is trying to dump an overly shy hound with little or no hunt off on a sucker. Tell your friend that unless he wants a housepet, let someone else be the sucker. A good hound will hunt for most anyone. An older, one man dog may take a while to adjust to new surroundings, but if this is true he wouldn't mind your friend having a trial period. This stinks to high heaven. I had an uncle once who had a hound that wouldn't hunt for anyone except him. That hound died of old age at his house after many years of trialing and gunning. There are hounds that may never hunt for anyone except their original owner. Would you want to breed to this?

Well dont be suprised if I dont give a trial, I will not give anyone a trial period, but I will tell you exactly what the dog is. Someone could really mess up a dog. Now if you want to go watch it run that is another thing.

As long as it's not in a training pen nor with other dogs! Dogs hunt different in training pens than to in the field, A LOT DIFFERENT! One thing is you can't tell if they're deer dogs or rabbit dogs in a pen!

i would never give a trial,,,,,,,you never know how they hunted the dog what the got him into,,,,,,,if they take a dog that does not trash and bring hi back trashy,,,,,,its your baby,,,,,if a guy wants me to show him in field that is different,,,,,,,you can basicly tell what a dog is gonna do within 1/2 hour to 45 minutes in a field but i like for them to see for there selfs,,,,,,,now if a guy buys a hound off of me then ask me to meet him half way after he enters his dog box he is 100% his no returns or refunds and that the way i look at it if im buying a dog and i ask them to meet me after he is in my box there is no need for me to bytch if i get took,,,,,,,internet dog buying and selling is a gamble,,,,,,,,,,,,,,just like you took your wife,,,,,,,,,,for better or worst,,,,,,,i guess what im saying is,,,,to keep friends and all ask to see the dog in the field and ask every question you can think of because there is always something left un covered,,,

what if you gave say a 2 week trial and the guy says he will take your word for what the dog is but you give the trial anyway. this dog has turned down a site chase and handles well with a shock collar on. the guy pays you and gets the dog 2 months before season and only runs it twice before season. he doesnt run a shock collar on this dog and the dog takes a deer and he loses it. its now 2 months later and he calls you and wants half his money back. what would you do? keith

I would say sorry you had your trial period which was two weeks. I would also bring up the fact that the hound was only run twice in two months. That is not enough running time for any hound to stay proficient.

I don't give a trial anymore either. Like was stated earlier, you don't know how somebody else will handle your dog or what trash runners they will put them with. I will show one in the field as much as the buyer wants. I'll even pay for the gas if they come to see it run and they don't buy it.
