Where to buy rabbits in central VA

Have a new pup (13 weeks old) that is flat out tearing up the bush. There is NO doubt that hunting desire is deeply bred into this hound. But I have been unable to catch a wild cottontail or kick one up for him. (We've had some bad weather and crusty snow). Where can I purchase some trainer rabbits within reasonable distance of Richmond VA? Or, is there a club in my vicinity that would rent a starting pen by the day, as I would like to take the pup home after each training session. I know most of you think its crazy to even consider starting a pup at this age, but in all my years, I've never had one like this. He may very well turn out to be "that dog of a lifetime", aka "SUPER PUP" :yikes:

Don't know about up in that part of the state but down here in the southwest part of va there are several people who raise rabits for training pups. But 5 hours is a long way to drive for rabbits. You might look up Ryan Gills in Cartersville Va I think he has a starting pen maybe he can help you.

BSBowhunter.......sometimes you can find people who raise San Jaun rabbits to use for training pups. I've seen them for sale at field trials . They are good to get a young pup started and interested quicker. The old guys say tho that if you let the pup sight chase too much it slows down the scenting trait/development. The trait comes into play when he looses sight of the rabbit and figgures out he needs to follow the scent. Possiblly someone near you may see your post and respond to help you. Happy training
