going to build a new box,i added 2 new hounds to my kennel so its no longer possible to put my one hound in the front of the truck and let her
ride shotgun! i'm planning to make it out of 3/4 in plywood with all the bells and whistles the question is do i insulate it?do i make it double wall
with insulation in the middle?this is my first box i want it right!

I wouldn't bother insulating it. Just make sure it is big enough that you can put two dogs in it on each side, but not so big that their body heat can't warm it up. Unless you are traveling across country, all they need is to be dry and out of the wind.

Holes in it for summer, but they have to be closable to block wind in the winter. Whatever else you put in/on it is up to you.

You may want to consider how much this box will weigh being made of 3/4 inch ply-wood and all the bells unless you can pick up over a 75lbs by yourself or have help.

I built mine a couple years ago. I went to a place that does upolstry for boats and got some 1x1 square allumin tubing. I made the frame
out of that stuff. Put 1inch pink board for insulation then wraped fiberglass milkhouse board around the outside. Turned out great and very lite. It was a 2 dog box.

He lives in Michigan, it gets real cold up there. I would definately do your dogs a favor and insulate it. I wouldn't use 3/4" plywood though, if you double wall it it will be so heavy you will have trouble lifting it yourself. I would use 3/8" on the outside and luan on the inside. JMO. Definately cant go wrong insulating it.

My box is too big for one person to lift. So what I did is construct a table the height of my tailgate and just slide it out when I need to and back in very easily.
You may want to price it all out then compare that to purchasing a box already built. You may be suprised that it cost the same to buy one from someplace. Check out http://www.millcreekdogboxes.com that's where mine came from and they are very affordable.
