cod liver oil

cod liver oil i see some add it to the dogs feed.
what are the benefits of adding it to the food?

cod liver oil is added as vitamen suppliments, usually during winter months. It helps with fatty acids. Gotta be careful, to much can be toxic. You will find codliver oil used in alot of home made dog food recipes.

We use it in their eyes when they get messed up from running in the summer. A couple of drops in each eye and they're good as new. Releives the irritation almost instantly.

went to the drug store and did not see liquid only seen tablets.
would it be the same?
