Chillled semen

Post by Ron D »

I ask my vet about his thoughts. He said although he hadn't used it on dogs, he had used it on horses. He said if I decide to go this way, he would like to be advised by the shipper on bringing the semen temperature down before insemination. Can anyone enlighten me on this process?

Also has anyone experienced any problems with AKC when going this route?

AKC HAS A SPECIAL FORM BOTH VET'S ON EACH END HAS TO FILL OUT !!! THERE IS A SPECIAL LIQUID THE SEMEN GETS MIXED WITH AND THEN PUT IN TO A SPECIAL PACKAGE WHICH ONE PART OF THE PACKAGE NEEDS TO BE PUT INTO THE FREEZER AND ONE IN TO THE FRIDGE 24 HOURS BEFORE YOUR STUD DOG IS TAKEN TO EXTRACT THE MALE !!! I BELEVE WHEN YOU PUT THE SEMEN MIXTURE IN TO THE BOX THAT IS HOW THEY CHILL IT ... WHEN YOUR VET IS READY TO INSEMINATE YOUR FEMALE, THE SEMEN UNDER A SCOPE LOOKS DEAD BUT IT IS NEAR A FROZEN TEMP AND YOU WILL HAVE TO LET THE ROOM TEMP WORM IT UP AND THEN YOU WILL SEE THE SEMEN START TO MOVE AROUND !!!! Using this process the semen is NEVER frozen!!!! It is just chilled and the semen will get moving once it hits room tempature. If you would like to know anymore about this process, give me a call at 270-274-1803
