stick hunt

I was fortunate as a youngster to attend several "stick hunts". This was back in the 60s and they were big events for our town. The hunts were on a gentleman's farm that didn't allow gun hunting but you could swing your stick all you wanted.. The last hunt I remember going on there were about 50 people and 15 or 20 dogs.. That half day hunt that Saturday produced 22 rabbits and not the first shot was fired. Well maybe one shot was fired-- one of the fellows was holding a tobacco stick to his shoulder like a rifle and aiming at a squirrel up a tall hickory tree.. He had just commented how he wished he had his 22 when one of the local pranksters pulled out a blank pistol and fired it right under the mans rear.. needless to say he slung the stick like it had bit him and the man with the blank gun could only fall to the ground laughing along with the rest of the crowd..
Thanks for posting this as it brings back some fond memories of days gone by...

Maybe thats why my grandpa always used a hickory walking stick when rabbit hunting a tradition that we have carried on got one standing in the corner of the garage now

YEAH, AT CHAMBLEE... REALLY NICE SET UP BEEN THERE SINCE FEB27. SIGHT CHASING HADNT PUT HIS HOSE ON THE GROUND YET THOUGH I WILL PICK HIM UP SUNDAY AND WORK WITH HIM MYSELF FOR A MONTH AND SEE IF HE MATURES A LITTLE AND TAKE HIM BACK.... ALL THE PUPPY ISNT OUT OF HIM YET...GO TO MDWFP.COM FORUMS AND YOU WILL MEET AND TALK TO RABBIT RUNNERS FROM ALL OVER THE STATE.. WE JUST HAD OUR ANNUAL FUN RUN AND IT WAS A BLAST.. LOOK AT THE SMALL GAME SECTION.....
