Opinions on apron fence for enclosures

I am thinking about building a 20-30 acre enclosure. The area i am considering building the enclosure on has a pond, some thick woods with briars and the rest is pasture. I plan on doing some work in the pasture areas to make the cover better than is is right now. There is currently a fence all the way around this area so all I would really have to to is fasten the apron fence to the existing posts and fence. My question to those that have enclosures is what brand, type and guage apron fencing would you recommend. I have talked to a couple folks that said they used the plain galvanized apron fence and they liked it. Is the coated that much better and if so what guage would you recommend?

Aaron, Call and talk to Bryne fence. That is were I bought my fence. I bought the fence one step down from his best quality. If you are going to fence that large of and area I hope that you have a lot of money.LOL

Dale,
I figured I would start asking for donations if I decide to go ahead with the project!
Is the stuff you bought coated or is it just plain galvanized? I was thinking about just going with the galvanized because I was told that if you stretch the coated to tight, a tree falls on it or a deer tries to run through it the coated stuff will rust worse than the plain galvanized. I guess once the coating streches or gets cracked the water wants to stay between the wire and the coating. I see some of the companies have a 10 year warranty on the coated but I bet the warranty doesnt cover deer, trees or stretching the wire to tight.

I have a friend that has had his fence up for about 10 years, and has no problems with his coated fence. He just fenced in another 22 acres with coated fence from bryne. They will give you a pretty good discount on that much fence. My cousin has the plain galvanized type, and the only thing I dont like about it, is it has one and a half inch holes, that a baby rabbit can get through.

I have both and have not seen much difference in the two as of yet. Both have been up for about six years. Ask me in another 10 years and I might have a opinion.

I would suggest you find a couple and take a look. We drove all over looking at pens prior to designing ours. I would still do a few things different if I were to do it again. You are more than welcome to take a look at mine if you want to make the drive.

Stoney I just ordered 20 rolls of 1''x1'' 20Ga 4'X150' galvanized chicken mesh from Lowe's today. It's not got an apron but at 55.00s a roll and 12'' wire being about 10.00s a roll Im still about 30.00s less per roll plus shipping then byrne. Im like you I have an area that is already barbwired so I just got to hang the wire up. I figure it will last 10yrs and If It don't then I'll just repair what needs to as I figure the apron will be the first part to rust out. The reason I went this route to put the apron on after the install is due to trees and other stuff already growing on my fence lines. I figure it will be easier to attach the apron after with hog rings than to try and turn it down as I hang it.
