Breeding Question...

When you guys are breeding how many times do you allow the dogs to knot and how many days in between?

Personally, i'm a user of the every other day (Once she starts standing) for 3 breedings. Which would be breeding the dog 3 times over 6 days.

A buddy of mine bred 1 day then waited 3 days then bred again and the vet told him not to do this based on 2 different age pups. Have you all scene this before? Which would be breeding the dog 2 times over 4 days.

Thanks for the help guys, i'm always lookin to learn and better my ways...

Jack,

I just had a guy tell me that his vet told him that sperm live 3 days inside the female and breeding on 3 day cycles was acceptable. You know how that goes every vet has different opinions also. I think every 2 days is just better for a hit. I usually breed twice.

I'll generally breed the bitch the first day she will stand, skip a day, then breed her again. So far so good with that method. I think you have fewer misses if you breed early in the cycle rather than late.

11 days is a hot day for my dogs seems to be a good day for a catch.
