male beagle breeding

Just curious, but how old should a male beagle be before breeding him? Most say 3 heats for female, but what about the males? Any time once they're "able"?

The male must be eight months of age before AKC will recognize him as the sire of a litter. I have nver met the beagler named "Most" or They, however the "three heat cycles for a female" is just someones opinion. Their opinion is no better than the next beaglers.

I've heard it said time and time again that if you breed a bitch too early you can really do some damage to her. Guess you don't believe that? I've seen it happen and its sad that people breed them early on just to make a couple $.

Roy, I agree. A dog must prove himself before he fits in the breeding program. I just bred a male pup at 9 months old because I have yet to see or own a beagle that can run with him. Different strokes for different folks. I just won third out of 24 dogs this past weekend in his second hunt. He also has a best male, best of show and a best of breed in the only show he's been in.

Guys, I wish I could show you a picture of him, as he is a beautiful dark red headed full blanket back with blue ticks up his legs. At a full 15", he loves the front and has the nose to handle it. Boys, I have been breeding dogs for more than 20 years and he's the best I've ever raised. His father was Kingwoods T-Rex and his dam is out of FC Blue Banks Pleaser.
I have no computer at home, so at work is where I get a chance to shoot the breeze with you guys and they won't let me send any pictures at work. Thanks for the request though. The best to.......

Jim-

Are you talking about T-Bone? I have run with this hound and he is definitely the real deal. I can take a pic of him next weekend when I come up to run and post it for ya on the board.

"I've seen it happen and its sad that people breed them early on just to make a couple $."

Opinions and assumptions. Unless you did hundreds or maybe thousands of breedings and documented the results you have no case. If a bitch is physically mature, what the heck magical qualities does the third time in heat have? After about a year the bitch is fully developed physically. I've owned several bitches that came in heat the first time at eighteen months and then at about eight month intervals. Does your third heat rule still apply? :)
