would like some info on the branko bloodline, good and bad. i just got a female thats 3/4 branko bred and would like to know what others who have branko dogs like about them or dislike. any info appreciated. jon c.

Oh good grief here we go!

I have dogs that have many crosses of Branko dogs in a five generation pedigree. I think that Branko bred many different styles of hounds for different trial formats or hunting conditions. Some of the most popular lines of Beagles originated from a Branko cross back a generation or two. What Branko dogs are in your pedigree ? It would be hard to lump them all together as one big stereotypical brand.

the way i see this is there is good an bad in all .... i have owned 4 now one that was just a total idot,,, 1 that just did'nt fit in,,, an 1 i still own he does a good all around job,, good hunt,, good line,, good check good foot.i just bought another one last week that that is doing great think he's gonna be a keeper so i guess i like them since i'm looking into another 1 .. but with that said i'vd only gunned hunted,, gonna take my lump's in the feild trailing world next spring.... but like the guy above said you done open up a can of worm's on here get ready to set back an read awhile i would say....

Do a search and there is a thread that went on for days. It will keep you busy for awhile.

I like them. Like any line of animals, including humans, there are great ones, good ones and bad ones, I think your chances of a great or good are higher with the Branko dogs. If not, why are so many people buying them, breeding them into their lines, and buying more and breeding more after the fact?

The best dog I own right now is Heavy Branko and Maravic bred and I would pay good money for another one just like him. I am not that big on blue ticks but he has a home here for a long time.

From what I've witnessed, they have (more often than not) a lot of desire and very good conformation. Not normally the type of hound to hit the brakes and immediately return to the point of loss. More of a forward searching hound at a check.

I have several Branko breed dogs that have been exceptional dogs, but on the flip i have seen one or two that people gave up on to early. Don't give up on a dog unitl they are at least 2 years old!!!

You will have to find out what dogs are in your pedigrees and then go from there. Are they second, third, or fourth generation on Jack, Ali-Baba, CopperBoy, Trimmer? If you have any of these three you can't go wrong.

The biggest factor that everyone is over looking is the females! What females did the second and third generation guys use? How did these dogs run, handle, etc...What kind of line control and check ability did they have? Branko is a proven breed, but the females that these guys are using on out in the pedigree have to hold up as well....thats my two cents. I would concentrate on the females or the second and third generations more than anything else.

Not mine and they are both out of Branko's One Tuff Ombre. The female hunts like a cottontail hounds and stays tight in the check. The male stays right there with her most of the time.

I agree with Jonny, I have to 8 month old bitches from Branko, one is from Tuffy the other is from Cowboy (ali baba) and I have seen them time and again hit the brakes when they lose the line and stay tight in the check area. These are my first two beagles so I have nothing to compare them to but they have been running hare since they where 4 months old in a dry dry summer and get better every month. Took the first two hare over them last weekend

This female is branko through fc maravics aladdin on top, her pedigree is on espo's site under cunninghams tinker belle. very heavy 3/4 branko bred.
