Sounds like she has a pup that is stuck in the birth canal. Better get her to a vet quick. You stand to lose all the pups. Best of luck.

As much as I hate to recommend it... I think you better get her to the ER clinic or now that its afternoon be brave and call the vet. You could loose the puppies and the bitch. This sort of thing cannot wait until morning. If she is pushing with no results then she could rupture the uterus. If you can you can try to reach inside her and get ahold of the puppy. It doesn't sound hopeful though if she has been working on it all day.

thx everybody

Leah
i went and reached inside of her and pulled a pup ,the pup was coming out head first and was almost much when i got it out .

would u say the rest of the pups are probably dead ?

I feel so bad for her ,i tried to get ahold of a vet and had no luck !
Since i pulled the stuck pup is there a chance she could have them normal now ?

Dont chance it I lost a female a few years back because I didnt get her to the vet in time and the infection from the pups killed her in less than 24 hours

I would say that it's too late now. It's most likely that all the pups are dead. Find a vet that will do an emergency c section for you. If you want to save the female this would need to be done soon.

Mitch..

It sounds bad. Can you find an ER vet clinic? It sounds like the puppies are all dead if the one you pulled was like Mush. I'm sorry for you especially when this stuff happens on a holiday or weekend. I usually call my vet a week in advance of a bitch whelping and give him a heads up. I am lucky though. I have his home and cell phone numbers.

If you cannot find anyone I hope she can pass the rest. Give her a couple of calcium tablets if you have them to keep the contractions going to expel the rest. It will not rupture the uterus like oxytocin does.

I'm so glad that I could help! Antibiotics are a good idea as well. Continue them for a minimum of 7 days. At this point as long as she is eating and doesn't run a high temp I wouldn't worry. she has raging hormones I'm sure which might make her seem a bit crazy or clingy but, in a few days she'll be fine.

Thanks for letting us know the outcome!

Mitch,

A shot of Oxytocin, 1cc would have cleaned her out any pups or afterbirth by introducing contractions. Afterbirth that remains inside a bitch when whelping is just as poisonous as a dead pup.

I agree Nate.. However oxytocin is dangerous if the bitch is still in labor and contracting and if there are still puppies to be delivered. I NEVER use it anymore. It causes placental seperation and if a puppy is stuck it can cause the uterus to rupture. I do think its right for a cleanout if you want to use it. I never have done that and in 20 years never had a bitch retain a placenta.

when a bitch is in active labor and seems to be slowing down the best choice is calcium. I use calsorb which is very inexpensive and easy to administer (orally) NEVER give calcium to a pregnant bitch only during labor.

Leah,
What does the Calcium do other then prevent calcium defeciency which is common in bitches that welp?

I to agree that you shouldn't give oxytocin unless it is last resort and with a stuck pup it wouldn't have done a thing to help would have actually harmed the female like you said.
