Hatfiel not many of our states do much for small game other than pheasant, but some states are alot better than others. Here in Michigan our state does nothing for the smal game hunters we do not have set aside areas for small game it is all focused towards deer hunting, and our charter boat captains because these are the ones that generate the $$$ as they see it. We have public access areas but they do not try to improve the small game habitat in fact our state has turned coyotes loose in areas that they say have toom many deer, this area is also farm country where alot of rabbit and pheasant hunting is done and the pheasants are low enough that seeing one along the road is like seeing a big buck. But i guess if the wheels don't squeak they will never get greased. So lets all squeak away!

After hunting Iowa for a few years I have been impressed with their public land for rabbits. Met a biologist and he said they have one biologist for every county. They cut sapplings and make brush piles just for rabbits and birds. I have found they have lots of rabbits.

Rabbit numbers seem to be up here in WV. We had a drier spring than we did the past couple years which I think helps cut down on the mortality rate of babies.
