What is more important to you, the overall cost of dog food or the quality of it? I have gotten the feeling from past dog food posts that the almighty dollar out weighs nutritional value for some folks.

nutrition. if my dogs look good and run good im happy.. The best ive found so far is The Pride 30/20..its doing great for me

For me its a combination of the 2. Nutrition of course comes first but, I'm not going to pay 40.00 a bag for something I can get for 20.00. You just have to do your research. We currently use Exceed (yellow bag) and Proplan for our puppies.

Never said it was not important but when this is discussed everyone talks performance ,coat, stool, etc. and at the same time if the price of there current food ( which they rave about) increased fifty cents a bag guess what? I have fed three different brands in the last few years and have ended up feeding Eagle pack Holistic select lamb and rice and the old saying you get what you pay for has seriously came in to play here this kibble costs me over a buck a pound ( partly because I buy it by the bag or two not in larger quantities) and is worth every penny far and away the best food I have ever fed.

Nutritional quality, without a doubt, is the deciding factor for me. That's not to say that the most expensive are always the best, most nutrient dense foods, and I don't have an unlimited budget where I can just shell out $$$ to purchase dog food. The two main feeds I use have a moderately high price but I've tried them all and the results they give are more than worth it.
The point is, I'm not going to use a food that gives mediocre results just because its more affordable than a better brand. For a few dollars more per bag, you feed less, get less waste and have overall healthier, thriftier dogs & pups. So the more expensive purchase price is offset ...

How many dogs do you have?
I have 9 dogs and have used the Eagle pack for my Great Dane, however, when you go through 100lbs of food a month or so cost does have some say so in your decision. I currently feed Pride green bag and am fairly happy with it for my hounds, and Iams for my two house dogs. I have feed Purina(never had ANY luck with that), Euk & Iams (left them when they started supporting HSUS), Diamond(great until they started messing with the formula), and now Pride.
Availiblity also has some play in it, I would love to go back to Eagle for my house dogs but the closest place to buy it is an hour away.

I have about everything available around here, mostly Diamond. I have now gone completely over to Purina Pro Plan. I feed less and less clean up. Dog health and my time is worth alot.

I feed Purina because the price is more than fair for what you get. Excellent nutrition saves money in the long run. Beware of companies that import their ingridients from Mexico. Purina has excellent quallity control. It is important to feed the appropriate formula according to the dog's age and activity level. Nutritional value and quallity control are the most important but price also counts.

Ya get what ya pay for. I've been feeding Nutri Source for about 4 years now with great results. I also feed it to my boarding and training dogs. I feel it is better than Euk. I have fed Pro Plan in the past and really liked it but I'm unable to get it up here. I switch dogs over to it on a daily basis and stools are firm right away. Less clean up etc... Plus, when you buy 12 bags the next one is free. Ya just need to cut the bar code off the bag. I know I could save money feeding a cheaper food (boarding & training) but the pro's out weigh the con's for me.

i am 100% purina man dog chow when there not runing to hard. high pro throught the cold months of rabbit season and puppy chow to the pups. I wouldn't switch to anything different again. Ive tried alot but find myself going back to purina. I have been feeding the new joy 24/20 to a couple dogs theyre eating less and really like the feed but crappin everywhere. so there back on the purina.
