i just got this great new from don leckrone about the turnout for the peru indiana open house. couldnt wait to share it with you.

Jack,, I thought I would write you ,and tell you how things went at the open house at Peru. I was wondering if I might be the only houndsmen at the meeting. But when I got to the meeting there was several pickups with dog boxes in them and several vans and some other cars there to, when I went inside is was standing room only,, once I got inside the conference room,, there was a few folks interested about deer hunting but other then that ,everyone seemed to there with concerns about saving our dog running the way it is,and alot of talk about how Salamonie is using to much land for a study area (840)acres. and the coyote men that were there expressed that there was far more coyotes in this area of salamonie now then there was before,,,,,but wouldnt you know it Tyson Edwards ,had just left ,before the evening crowd of sportsmen showed up,,I am sure the houndsmen wrote down there concerns, about these topics. the dnr fellows there ,did stick up for tsyon. but they did admit that there was No proof of studies of dog running being a negative factor to wildlife.in Indiana.
If the other open house meetings have a turn out as good as Peru,,,things shoud be in our favor.
something interesting,,one of the dnr fellows said this years meeting was alot more interesting then past open house meetings,, I ask why that was ,,,and He replyied , in the past years NO one shows up to the meetings... I am sure we will make an imapact,,I know I will not let up til the dnr drop this change to dog running.
if we do lose this ,,I believe it is time for a new management for our wildlife in Indiana.

great success at tri-county today

the open house at tri-county today was great also. there were about 50 people showed up 47 of them were indiana dog owners. beaglers mostly, but several coon hunters. i am certain that dnr got no support for the dog training restrictions what so ever. its was great. i got to meet some really great beaglers, and enjoyed an afternoon of total beagling support.

lets keep the pressure on now with the remaining meetings. get out in force and have someone stay the whole time to mill around and talk to folks that are not there for the dog training issue. after i explained dnrs plans and our position the undecided folks all marked their questioners no they didnt want dog training restrictions

way to go folks, the beagler/ hunting dog owners voice is getting louder and louder in indy..... do you think we can get american beagler coverage at the statehouse if we have a march this summer...... im sure i already know the answer to that question......lol.

what the fellows are telling me is that if i will get the pemit to assemble they will show up with their dogs, dog boxes, trucks, and signs. it will be a peaceful assembly, but yes cnn and all the local media have been mentioned. we have to see how far indiana dnr is willing to push this dog running issue though. they are getting beat up pretty badly by the sportsmen at the open houses right now. i got an email from DNR last night they set up a meeting with me and three other people to discuss dnrs position and ours..... its for later this month. i dont think we are going to be very flexible on this.

what does one need to do to get a permit for a running pen in michigan and hard is it to get them approved.

Indiana Department of Natural Resources has asked me to attend a meeting later this month on the dog running issue. i sent emails to everyone in my address book that was hunting related asking them what they think about the restrictions. should we hold out for no changes at all, should we compromise and ask for a percentage to be left open, and if so what percentage...10,15,20%.

if you are not in the alliance address book send me an email at j2hyden@earthlink.net and i will add you. We would like to get an early warning program going so when important ideas or situations that affect the hunting dog owner come to light we can contact everyone easily to get mobilized.

DNR at Sugar Ridge FWL got an "eye opener" this evening. Lots of sportsmen showed up, Beaglers, Birddoggers, Coon hunters all there as ONE MIGHTY FORCE!
A special thanks to the Senator who followed through on his promise to attend, thank you Lindel. It does a heart good to see the passion still burns in the hearts of so many :D ...Patch

from all indications dnr took a pounding with their position. every meeting was packed with upset hunting dog owners and other sportmen and women that support us.

please contact your senator again, ask him to inervene on the behalf of the sportsmen and women of indiana. there is an easy to use link to our elected officials on the http://www.beaglersalliance.org/indiana/ webpage. the date for the beaglers alliance to meet with dnrs top brass is july 1. ask your senator or congressman to contact dnr before then and let them know that the voting public is not happy with dnr's performance. lets keep the heat on.

the indiana deer hunters association has just come out against our position of keeping dog running/training as it is. DNR is trying to run with it. it is the only support that they have. If you know a indiana deer hunters association member find out what is up. i think you will find that only four people run the show at the deer hunters association. i talked with dave delaney a few weeks back and he even said that dnr doesnt care about numbers so they are going to become a closed group this fall and give up the tax free status. its obvious they have already done that, they just forgot to tell anyone. all the deer hunters i know are on our side.

please send me an email at j2hyden@earthlink.net and let me know that you deer hunt and are still against dnr changing dog training rules.

thanks
jack.
