Preacher -
I'll have to say "lack of a good trainer" as that could include any of the other things listed. But probably, running dogs w/ trashy dogs has ruined more dogs than anything else.
You could also include to your list making a dog gun shy by not introducing them to a gun properly.

This is Easy

Patience
Without a doubt patience!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To many hounds man purchase a pup out of a popular bloodline and if they aren't barn burners in less than a year. The owner is on to the next big thing.

All dogs need allot of run time.yard work and patients.
To many hounds on the Internet run check less that does not help either!!!!

The shock collar for sure; but along with that, when you live in conditions where its much, much more easy to find deer than it is to find rabbits. You can shock a dog off deer, but unless you can then find rabbits to put him on, you can do dammage to the dog.

Ignorance.....which includes all of the above. What I am trying to say is what a old-time houndsman told me."More owners and handlers need to be culled than dogs " something to think about.

Poor uncalculated breeding of one worhtless hound to another. No chance from the day the pup first see the light of day. Just breeding for the sake of breeding, with abslolutely no rhyme or reason.

Hey Preacher,
In answer to your post all of the things you have listed and especially the trainer not knowing how to handle dogs.

1. Running young dogs with hounds that run off game
2. Poor breeding / genetics
3. Handlers who mistreat their hounds or exhibit a lack of patience
