A general forum for the discussion of hunting with beagles, guns, clothing and other equipment and just talking dawgs! (Tall tales on hunting allowed, but remember, first liar doesn't stand a chance)
all it takes is a 22-250 a tape player and a tape. i have been getting about 1 week. don't call the same place often, only call for 5-7 minutes, have the wind in your face, stay hidden in the edge and don't move alot. they have the eyes, ears and smell of deer and turkey combined. my tapes have a 2 minute delay allowing me time to get back to my hunting stool and i am in the scope from the minute i sit down. they will come right to the tape player most of the time.
I have 2 tapes a pup cry and a adult in stress. my dog found afresh rabbit with no head yesterday. I hung it from a tree and put 3 legholds under it. sprayed it with some racoon pee . nothing. I played the tapes today. nothing. tonight they are in the front and back yard??? I dont have fields only woods..
I use injured rabbit or canine pups but a guy gave me a tape of house cats. It sounds like about a dozen cats with meows, purrs and hisses. I have got the last three with it. I get off work at 8 am and try to call as soon after as I can. I also call in the evening a half hour before dark.
