I have heard that some put down lime under there above ground kennels. What does this lime actually do. Will it cut down kennel smell?

I would like to give it a try. I have seen bag's of lime at Home Depot. But I do not know which kind to buy. How much do you need to put down. Any detail's will help out.

According to the lady from the health department it does. We put down a dusting under each kennel every time we clean up-which is 2 or more times a week. Pulverized lime. Nothing to it-just sprinkle.

Yes it will take the smell away completely, you want to get the Hydrated Lime. Put a lot on make it look like it just Snowed a couple of Inches. I use it all the time.

Lime is ideal for under the kennel.
However if you have a ground kennel it will burn the dog's feet.

I know you are using an above ground kennel, the message is for those that read it with ground pens.

I bought garden lime . Dewey had told me that it worked but it's amazing. I just barely sprinkled the ground with it and the scent
just seemed to dissapear . I try to clean under my puppy kennel once
or so weekly and did sprinkle it on "clean" smelly ground . $2.XX a 40 lb bag .

Oh yea I'm thinking it has a warning tag about cancer .

Hydrated lime is what I use, and I only have dirt kennels. It eats up the poop too, not just stops any smell. When dogs poop in pens, you can almost see it desolve.
Won't eat live flesh, but will eat up anything dead in short order.

Hydrated pulverized lime--nice fine powder. Hard to spread on a windy day. :) It makes the ground hard so scooping gets easier as well as destroying odors.

when we had dirt kennels we would turn the ground under once a year and before we did that we would put a layer of lime down then aftewards hose it down to make sure it didnt burn the dogs feet it really helps with the smell and dont be fooled i know from experience lime will burn u i had some gloves on one day while working with lime and it got inbetween the gloves and my wrists and left burn marks on both wrists

ive used crushed limestone for years. works good. doesnt burn there feet. Hydrated lime will burn as it reacts.
