I'm glad we don't have any of those rattle snakes where I run dogs here in southern Indiana.I still wear snake boots.

I hate snakes . One of my lil rabbit hounds appeared to get hit by a copperhead a few days ago . We still had some good running after that  . I never noticed it until the next day or I would have freaked out in the field and got her home . She's tough and the swelling
has almost gone away now . I hope she learned a lesson :crossfingers:

Steve, I take it you didn't hear about the introduction of timber rattlers on the strip mines of Southern Indiana a few years back. I heard they dropped them in burlap bags via helicopter - supposedly to help rodent control. SR Patch could probably yay or nay the rumor.

Oh yes, that old rumor is rampant in Ohio too-the DNR released rattlers to control the turkey population!! LOL, I've been assured many times it's nothing but a rumor-a rural legend you might say.

Is that a Canebrake or a Timber rattler ? There are some of the Canebrake rattlers here. I have never seen one living though. One of my buddies had a dog bitten last summer. We figured it was a copperhead.

Bev,Thank you for the info.My son is a State Trooper here in Indiana, and I will see if he can get some info out of his C.O. buddies. We have enough black snakes, owls, hawks, and coyotes around here to keep rodents down.I have always worried about somebody turning loose a exotic poisonous snake or a whole hog swallowing snake.

FAST FACTS

DESCRIPTION: The canebrake rattlesnake is a heavy-bodied snake. Color is pale grayish-brown to pink, with a pattern of dark-brown to black V-shaped cross bands and a russet stripe down the centerline of the back. (The rusty stripe distinguishes a canebrake from a common timber rattler.) A broad, dark stripe angles back from the eye, and the tail is velvety black.

Not trying to start an argument but I think they are two different species.
