winter time ya can catch every rabbit in a bottom on the 2nd or 3rd nite after it has come a good snow we used plain ole wodden box traps n bait them with apple we have caught 8 or 9 in one nite probally couldve caught more as that was all traps we had, its hard for me to catch them in summer ive tried but not much luck we never used any cover scent or nothing to cover the trap either but the traps had screen wire on one end some had plexi glass nothing to it jb

From my limited exp....
#1 I use apples, peaches, pears,patatos and peels also spray some apple juice all over trap.

#2 I take the trap and rub ground dirt and pine,spruce branches.also put some rabbit droppings in and around the trap.

Hint Note: when you catch the first rabbit in a new trap, leave him in there for a little bit, he will leave lots of scent on the trap.

#3 I built some pyramid traps out out of 2''x1'' strapping, and was told not to paint them,cause of paint smell.

I have caught ( 3 snowshoe hare) and ( 7 cottontails) this year.
I trap them, then release them and let the dogs(pups) run em.
It sure makes for some fun runs

I haven't had any success in the past trying to trap rabbits until last week. I built a pyramid trap, put fresh rabbit droppings from my Smokies in the trap, and then put a fresh GrannySmith on the stick. I have caught 3 in the past 7 days. I was on a roll until this morning when I checked the trap and found a possum. I've heard that it is hard to catch a rabbit in a trap after youv'e caught a possum but I guess I'll find out.

I had a (SKUNK) in one. ( Can you say Run )

I just got rid of both. replaced trap, Not the skunk!!!
You should be able to build one for ( 7 to 10 dollars ) I did.

I've caught rabbits in a pyramid after I've caught a possum. I spray my traps down with apple cider vinegar. The bad thing about catching possums are they chew the hell out of your traps. They always die of lead posioning after that

Sorry my bad,i will update my records

I use pyramids with the yellow apple . I put several good drops of the training scent that smells like rabbit around the apple.Works well here in NC!! I also put very small pieces around the edge of the trap. Hope this helps.

I use pyramid traps and apples w/ vanilla extract and tame rabbit droppings. A little trick I recently learned is a cottonball soaked in vanilla extract.

Here are a couple. The first one a guy gave to me, and the second one I made. It's simple to make and a lot easier to tote areound and hide, and it works great.


This one I took 3/4 inch by 7.5 inch wide board and cut them into 2 foot sections and made a square and covered it with chicken wire and hinged a piece of plywood to the bottom of it. I then took a jigsaw and cut out the door to get the rabbits out of. Shown in second photo. This one I didn't put any sent cover up on it and just covered the wire with grass and stuff that was lying around where ever I set the trap. I caught more in it then the old one that had caught rabbits before. The nice thing about the second one is that the rabbits can't chew on it. I use apples and venl.


If you have any other question let me know and I'll try to answer them the best I can. I also have photos of the figure four trigger if you want to see how it is set, I have it step by step. Hope this helps

has anyone ever considered putting some sort of a wire floor in thier traps? if so, pros and cons?

I have not used wire for a floor yet! If you have wire that is stiff enough that you can make wider then your trap and then bend your wire up around the edge of the trap I wouldn't see why it wouldn't work. I would be woried about the rabbits getting there feet caought in it and hurting themselves.
