Dew Claws
What is the oldest age that that dew claws can be removed without going to the Vet? I missed one in my current litter.

I have taken dew claws off grown dogs with the smallest, strong, rubber band you can find . If you can not find any small enough you can double the band and you can also cut the band and tie it in a knot tight around the dew claw it will come right off in a few days, takes longer if there is a bone in the dew claw. I have never had a problem doing it this way.
Gus, Did you have a lot of bleeding at that age? I did use the rubber bands once on a dog that was over a year old. Didn't have any problems with that. My vet said he would only charge $30 to remove a pair of dew claws. Sounds reasonable to me.

Seen a 5 mo old Dog get one tore off one time.
Wasnt pretty
if it was as Easy as Cuttin Em off with a pocket knife everyone would do it.....
They are capable depending on the size of the vien and growth of the bone of bleeding profusly.............LOTS

I have cut them at four months. but it gets bloody. usually cut them at two weeks. this ensures they are strong enough to take it.
