I just recieved my rabbit hunting survey results back that the state does every year. I was wondering what yall think about the trend that is going on with population, # of hunters, rabbits jumped, rabbits killed, or in general, the survey. I also wonder how many participate. I for one think that the survey is a good idea and encourage others to do so.

Jimmy, in the back of the Ky hunting guide, there are several surveys that you can cut out and send in at the end of the season and they send you a free cap or a patch or something. There is one for grouse, quail, and rabbits, and there may be others as well. I kept mine last year but hunted so little that i didn't bother to send it in. It has columns for number of hunters, number of rabbits jumped, killed, wounded, and some other stuff. I agree with Green River that we all need to do these and send them in so the state will be aware if there are any bad population trends or anything they can help with. Sometimes we may be critical of situations that F & G may not even be aware of.

I fill mine out every year and have recieved several thank you letters and hats and a nice knife. I try to do what ever I can to help , The DNR has planted and or gave us several fruit and nut trees to plant on our property after it was logged and stripped several years ago . Any time the forest fires get close they always show up and work for days to cut breakers.

I think the numbers may be down after the drought and heat we had late in the year.
Early in the year before the heat and drought, rabbit numbers were as good as I have seen in years.
I got 2 the only time I have been out.

Due to predators catching the older rabbits and many of the young the population will certianly go down . I was told rabbits will also go into the wooded areas more this time of year to feed on acorns and such (change of habitat . If anyone knows anything about this please let us know , as I'm only going by what I've been told

.
Thank you ,
buddy
ps. I'm glad to find out there is a survey to send in

. I never knew that before this post . The population seems really good here , however the rabbits have HEAVEY cover here in most areas .
