Pups from Canada

I'm going to be getting a beagle pup from Branko's kennel later this spring. Hopefully I'll have time to drive up there and see the kennel myself and pick the pup up. How does it work bringing a new dog back into the states from Canada. I've taken dogs back and forth before for hunting trips but they were my dogs and I new that I had all the appropriate paperwork. Does anything change when you purchase a pup in Canada.
If anyone has done this personally I would appreciate your input. Thanks.

Call Frieda and talk to her would be your best bet. I recently went through a bad experience with taking a dog across international borders. Branko's have done this for many years and keep up on all the new regulations.
If you ask on this board you are subject to getting a variety of answers and some of them may be based on an their experience years ago. Since 9/11 many things have changed on the boarders involving the need for passports etc.... dont gamble with some advise from someone that doesnt keep up with all the changes.
Good luck, and hope you have a good experience!

If you're driving across, the only thing you really need is a rabies certificate if the dog is over 6 months. I don't think you'll need much for a pup...maybe your bill of sale (papers). Flying one across is another story.

I live close to the MN/ONT border and cross pretty frequently. Bev is correct, however for a puppy I'd go to the trouble of getting a vet signed health cert just to be on the safe side. To cut thru all the b.s. though just place a call to U.S. Customs, they'll tell ya for sure.

I have carried many dogs across the line from Branko. Frieda always took care of all the paper work and never a hitch.
