My little female is coming into season. She has been running pretty good. I took her this weekend & she just wont hunt. Is this a normal thing, she will start a bunny & then not follow the line & comes back to me? Any opinions. Mike

All of mine hunt just fine when they are in heat, but some females are funny when they come in season. I have heard of one or two that wouldn't hunt when in heat, but have never witnessed it. I have 4 that come in every year when I go to Iowa so I always have to run a female pack and I run the female pack only on private land. They don't miss a beat when they are in heat so I would say it is an individual dog thing.

I had a friend whose female wouldn't leave his feet when she was coming in or in season. She wanted no part of anything. Big-time PMSer, lol. Some females are affected for a few weeks after the heat, too. I couldn't tell you about mine because we were always primarily a male kennel, and when the females came into season, they didn't get out of their kennels. I'd have to let them down in the yard in 2 shifts - one gender at a time. Pain in the fat one that was...
