Anyone use Purina Hi-Pro

Does anyone use Purina Hi-Pro? How does it rate, and does it make the dogs crap a lot? I currently use Joy but it is going up $8 a bag. I used Kent before I used Joy and the dogs crapped twice as much as they ate and it was always soft. I don't want to use a food like that again.

Me and a few other Beaglers did not have any luck on the Hi Pro however the Purina Dog Chow has done excellent. The dogs look good and stool isn't excessive. Now I used to feed it as a summer feed but I think I am going to use it year round and see how they do next winter. I fed Eukanuba for Winter feed, very little stool and it doesbnt take much feed to keep weight on them. Now if you run extremely hard and have cold winters or dogs that don't hold weight then Eukanuba Premium Performance or Eukanuba Puppy will fatten up any dog.

I have switched from diamond to dog chow as diamond went to 18.99 from 15.98 I get purina for 16.49 and with weight circles its only 12.49
I have feed 600lbs so far and my dogs seem to be doing really good on it ran 2 dogs yesterday for 4hrs in the morning and then 3 1/2 hours in the evening and they were still hunting hard when I was done so far so good I think I am staying with the dog chow

What is the weight circles you guys are talking about?

I have been feeding Hi Pro and like it. I have one out of 4 dogs that has continually soft stool. But there definitely isn't excessive stool. I have thought about trying Diamond. These are the only 2 decent foods I have available in my area. Anyone tried both?? Thoughts? Thanks.

Mike,

When I had all my hounds they took to the Green Bag of Diamond real well. The yellow bag was real bad, real loose stools, but the green bag of diamond was great for them. I liked it a lot. They always hit the automatic feeder hard when I put it in them. I really didn't like the diamond puppy food. Again loose stools, they started eatting the green bag at 4 months and never had a problem.

What is the weight circles you guys are talking about? quote

I did feed the diamond brown bag high energy I liked it but got to exspencive now feed the dog chow, weight circles are on the bags and you join purina pro club and collect these circles and send in and they send you rebate checks for your next feed purchace on dog chow is 8 cents a lb so your rebate would be $4 a bag but they send you checks for $7 after you collect so much you just keep building your account if you dont understand my jiberish call me

I wouldn't mind trying hi-pro. Have seen some dogs on it and they look pretty fit.

Fed purina for years. As of late i have been told just today by my vet how hard high protein is on kidneys.
Coming this week i am sending 2 dogs for a check over to get some readings on my dogs kinda like a doggie physical.I was also informed unless you are running hard dog chow is the best.My vet is a bird hunter and he endorses purina also . They have been in bussiness a long time and i like there product. I dont like high pro personally as there coat seems dull to me and loose stool. Purina Performance has been my choice for some time but now i am worried about the effects. I will let everyone know what the vet finds out. :crossfingers:

I heard that any high protein food is bad on kidneys if the dogs aren't run hard. If you feed high protein food, then they need to run that off. If not ran then yes it can be hard on kidneys.
