When is the first day of heat? Is it when the dog first starts to spot (e.g brownish red), or is it the first day the blood is red?

i check my females every day when i know their time is close to come in heat, when i see them swell up and start spotting,i count 9 days, then i start putting the gyp with the male i use for stud,no,if you are using someone elses dog for stud, all you have to do is put the gyp near a male and she will flag him shen she is ready,if he goes near her,and she is ready, she will bend her tail around and pucker up,when she does that, she is ready...........

i like to breed on the 9th,11th and 13th days.......

I count the first day I see blood as day 1. I breed on days 8, 10, 12. I have never had a miss, knock on wood!

JDMART, That is what I thought. I thought that you start counting the first day you see blood regardless of the color. I have had two misses in a row and she is in heat again. I can't make it three...

I count the first day of spotting blood as day 1. Each bitch is a little different on when she ovulates so I don't have any set rules on which days to breed. As soon as she will stand and flag, and is soft enough for entry then I try holding her for a tie. But If my stud dog isn't interested then it is not time as I am fortunate enough to have a dog that knows what he is doing and is too lazy to just "go through the motions." He lets me know in no uncertain terms when it's time :hammer: . He will check her constantly :eyes: during her heat and when she is HOT  HOT  HOT  I try to breed them every other day 3 times in a row.

Personally I think that if the timing is right and both animals are healthy and fertile than one 2-minute tie  will do the trick :baby: :baby: :baby: :baby: :baby: :baby:
