I se alot hounds for sale on here out of alot of trial dogs but wheres all the good gun dog bloodlines?

i think in most cases they are the SAME dogs.

Yep, my trial hounds are great gun dogs as well. If they weren't, they wouldn't be trial hounds or in my kennels. JMHO.

What is the bloodline difference between a gun dog and a trial dog?

I am with Jim and Hillbilly. They don't get to go to the show if they can't perform under the gun.

There is no difference in trial dogs blood lines and gun dogs bloodlines unless the dog is from a "Traditional Brace" bloodline. If the dog is from a traditional brace bloodline it will be no good for gun hunting. The rest of the lines out there are more about what you like in a dog as far as speed, hunt, line control, conformation and so on. If you like them fast then go with a line that is run in arha LP or AKC LP or AKC Midwest SPO or UKC H and H, If you like medium speed then go with something from arha PP or UKC performance pack or some UBGF dogs. If you like them slower then go with some of the SPO stuff from the deep south. The bottom line is see it run before you buy from it and you will be more apt to have success, don't go off of what you see and hear on the board when it comes to hunt and speed because those things are subjective and everyone has different standards on them that may not match yours.

Like was said....the owners are the only difference for the most part. Lots of good dogs that were never trialed and lots of good dogs that were. Only difference.

I believe the same thing that a good bloodline makes a rabbit dog or trial dog. The question I have is can a dog win in trials if he is gunshy. If so then he is not a good gundog only a trial dog.

I have a little different perspective than some of you. I'm a hare hunter, I hunt all winter in all conditions. From my experience, the average beagle from "hare" bloodlines (trialed in AKC Large Pack Hare trials) will not make a good gun dog on hare.

LPH trials are held inside a fence. As many as 50 dogs are turned loose at one time. They are held mostly in good running conditions. They sound like a lot of fun, I don't have anything against them. But that ain't hunting. Follow the boards where hare hunters post and you will see most are looking for beagles that can run a hare in all conditions, and they aren't having much luck finding them.

Now before I get blasted, I'm not saying there are no FC or IFC dogs that are good hare gun dogs. I think there are some that are very good gun dogs. It is possible to have a dog that is good at both, just as there are show beagles that can hunt. I'm just saying that field trials don't check for the traits that make a good gun dog for hare hunting.

i have hunted backyard gun dogs all my life and prefer them , the best dog i ever hunted with was one my buddy had when i was still in school , it was a little ( prolly 11 or 12 inch ) female black and tan 3/4 beagle 1/4 terrier , would run rabbits from daylight to dark then get up the next day and do it again . hunted with her and 2 of her pups for 5 or 6 years , never ever ran trash, handlers dream and would even retrieve one and deliver to hand on occasion, wasn't blazin fast but never fell asleep waitin for her either.

backyard dogs all the way they only registerd line of dogs ive ever really been interested in is the patch line ive tried alot of others but my grade line has been good to me.

I wonder why there are so many for sale on the For Sale board? Most have great papers.

Yea, you cn get $50 for a grade pup, and $150 for a top FC pup There is a ton of $$$ to be made!
