The running was great.

We had 16 dogs, and they all got plenty of running.
We ran with Del, Randy, and Jimmy a couple of days. They are from Michigan, and are real weird they were all eating woodCOCK. Del kept shooting everybodys hats with his pistol! They kept trying to get me lost in some swamps, but I wouldnt go real deep. Its so flat up there a Hillbilly like me is lost with no mountain to get his bearing from.

On Thursday we lost 5 dogs for about 6 hours. I lost signal on Honey she ended up being in a car with a woman. Luckily we got them all back.

We had a great time, even if Troy snores like 2 hogs fighting.

People up there are always so helpful (sometimes to much so), the local pub or restaurant (hang-out) seems the best place to find lost hounds as the word is spread quickly about any found hounds and they're eager to find the owners.

How was the hare population?
Funny how the forest can "swallow" you up. Walking in, you think your following a path, then when you turn around, it all closes in and everything looks the same, no road noise, trains or farm dogs barking,... deafening silence...

what a wonderful trip. I sure hope I can find a way to go again. The colors can't be explained, the most yellow, yellow I have seen.

Hospitality is not limited to the south. A special thanks to Jimmy, (don't know his last name) Del Ritsma,(SP) and Randy Brown. They treated us just like long lost friends.

About the only thing I would offer as advice is to take several dogs and don't burn them out the first day. The running is non stop, no kidding. Take a GOOD tracing system, (anyone up that area tried the Garmin system yet?) and one last little thing, don't wear your good hat around Del, mine has a hole in now. In reality, it should have several more.

Perk,

My Rip/Sable cross was outstanding up there. The oter two out of Buzz and Husslin Rose did real well too.

Glad you got all the dogs back. It is easy for them to get away from you up there. Kind of scary losing a dog like Honey. Those are some really nice folks up there. Most of them will go out of there way to help you. They look out for the dogs also. I have lost some and had to laugh when the people said they were in the house sleeping or in the garage under a heat light. That is the kind of folks that live un the UP that I have meet. It is lots of fun to run the hare and be around nice folks.

Try'n to get a new roof on the house before we go...124 bundles on the roof, one side almost done. Don't know if'n I'll live through it to get to hunt or not, them young helpers sure make you feel old.
Just up for another Advil, better get back to bed for a little while... :headache:
