Just an observation, we've run packs of mixed speeds before. The hounds on the lower end of the footspeed spectrum have two choices: run the track as they are suppose to, or spend the whole day just running to stay up with the other dogs. If your slower dog did pull his head up and go to the other one, it wouldn't be long before he was left behind again.

On the flip side, if the faster dogs come to a check and the slower dogs are still barking away at the line behind them, the slower dogs are liable to pull the faster ones back - away from any successful checkwork (very frustrating).

I can live with a little variance in footspeed, but if the hounds have a big disparity in footspeed I don't run them together.
